Anita Loves the "Love" Kit!

Monday, January 13, 2014

Hi everyone, it's Anita here today to share a project with you.
My layout today is made using the Love is in The Air Kit
 available from Frosted Designs.
This kit is so awesome - anything with glitter is right up my alley-
and then when you add spray ink, I am really in love!!!

Here is a look at my layout,,,,,
My DD2 was on the Rowing Crew during her days at Texas A&M Galveston, and
this photo is just one of those random pics taken on the road to a meet.

I tried not to make the page too frilly, because they were on The Crew after all,
but I did manage to squeeze in some fun elements. The round elements you see where
punched from the back side of one of the papers. I layered the PPs and added a
layer of Bazzill cardstock in the middle.

Along the bottom of my page, I adhered the die cut numbers from the kit. Using the
stencil in the kit and Molding Paste from the Mixed Media Starter Kit  I added hearts
randomly over the numbers. When the paste was dry, I went back, and using the stencil again,
I sprayed with Lemon Zest Dylusions. I added a couple of light sprays of ink to the rest of the paper
while I was at it.

How cute are these little Camera Clips from Maya Road???? I layered die cuts from
the kit here, along with some ribbon. The arrow in the corner was punched from the back side
of one of the papers. The chipboard is Maya Road; I inked it white and sprayed with
Lemon Zest, blotting off the excess.

This "Life is Good" sticker is mounted on another chipboard from Maya Road, I had to
trim it just a tiny bit. I finished with Alphas and more die cut stickers from the kit.

Be sure to stop by the Frosted Designs Store to pick up a kit for yourself- these kits
have so much in them! I see two more projects coming out of mine this month!
Thanks for stopping by today!
Have a wonderful week!!
Anita

Debbie Shares A Mixed Media Canvas

Tuesday, December 17, 2013

Hi everyone!  Debbie here today to share with you a mixed media canvas I made using the

I really love creating with a canvas.  The process is so unforgiving.  Make a mistake and it's easy to cover it up whether you use some molding paste, inks, sprays or paint.
I started off by covering my  6" x 6"canvas with some papers from the December kit.  I then covered the papers with some Faber Castell Gesso found in our Mixed Media Starter kit to tone down the colors a little.  Next I cut a square of the gold glitter tulle from the kit and glued it on top of my canvas.   I then used the Heidi Swapp Confetti stencil, found here in the store and applied some Golden Molding Paste from the Mixed Media Starter kit.  I randomly added some of the seed bead mix from the kit to my wet molding paste.  I applied some Golden Molding Past to the Maya Road Chipboard snowflakes.

I used a Die Namics Scallop die on the piece of white glitter felt and then dipped a paint brush into the Ranger Perfect Pearls Mist - Forever Red and painted the felt scallop red.  You can see it in the picture above tucked under the gold vellum embellishment.
I used the Heidi Swapp Gold Color shine on one of the Maya Road ruffled flowers.

To create the snow- like frame around my canvas, I applied Golden Molding Paste which I mixed with some coarse salt to give it a grainy effect.  I kept adding it around my frame to build it up and give it more dimension.

I love this month's Mixed Media Paper Kit!

I really enjoyed creating my canvas and I hope that I have inspired you.  Next month I will share with you a step by step process for creating a beautiful canvas.
Thanks for stopping by!

Love Notes For You - - - Debbie Shares A Mixed Media Canvas

Thursday, November 21, 2013

Hi, Debbie here today to share with you a mixed media canvas I made using the
I  love the papers and embellishments in the kit and thought the combination was a perfect match to
create a 8 x 8 canvas.

I started off by covering my canvas with the Faber Castell Gesso found in our Mixed Media Starter kit. Next I used the Crafter's Workshop 6x6 Circle Grid Stencil from the November kit along with the Heidi Swapp Confetti stencil, found here in the store and applied some Golden Molding Paste from the Mixed Media Starter kit.  I randomly sprayed my background with some pink mist and also applied some of the Donna Salazar Mix'd Media Inx - Schoolhouse along with some of the Dylusions White Linen Ink Spray from the store.  I randomly stamped my background using the Prima Marketing Sunrise Sunset Clear Stamp, and then added some circles by dipping an empty toilet paper cardboard roll in some white paint.  I inked the edges of my canvas using the Donna Salazar Mix'd Media Inx - Honey.

I had a canvas banner left from the October Mixed Media Paper Kit which I stamped with the Prima stamps included in the kit using the Schoolhouse ink, which I also applied to some of the lace.

I took the three Pink Paislee Luxe Collection Chipboard Hearts, turned them over and stamped them with the Schoolhouse ink.

I added a beautiful cluster using flowers from the kit which I inked, along with some brads and a Cosmo Cricket Cabochon.

I really enjoyed creating my canvas and I hope that I have inspired you.  If you haven't purchased a kit yet, I encourage you to buy one.  The possibilities are endless . . . so many goodies in the kit to create with.

Thanks for stopping by!

Sandee's Mixed Media Plaque!

Saturday, November 16, 2013

Hi everyone, are you excited to see the 2013 November Mix Media Kit
I know that you kit subscribers are going to absolutely love it! ( It's never to late to join up! )
It's so pretty and full of fun things to play with.

Here's my plaque:

And here is a short slideshow with the details of how I put it together:

a couple of close ups:
I just love how the ink wicked into the flower. I wet the flower first and then touched the edges of the petals with the ink pad, then rubbed some of the ink into the petals for a soft pastel look. This ink really activates with water, it's amazingly juicy!

The stamps are so versatile, I created flowers by adding some doodles! And you will be very pleased with how well the tiny polka dot buttons match the colors of the ink!

And isn't it just perfect when you can use one kit with another? I used the letters from the 2013 October Mix Media Kit for my sentiment!

I cannot wait to see what YOU make and I hope you share your creations ( cards, lay outs or off the page project ) with us on our Frosted Designs Face Book page and don't forget to sign up for the newsletter so you don't miss out on any specials from the Frosted Designs store!!

Art Journaling Phobia!

Wednesday, November 13, 2013

I'm not sure that is the official term (Art Journaling Phobia) but that is what I am calling it!!  :)  Let me start from the beginning.... when we first decided to open the Frosted Designs Store, I knew that I wanted to provide all of you with a Mixed Media Paper Kit. I didn't want a kit that had random mixed media items added to it that I wouldn't have a clue how to use. I wanted a kit that combined my love of paper crafting with the new Mixed Media trends. I admire all of the mixed media items that everyone is using on their cards and layouts and art journals but I didn't have a clue how to add them to my projects. So, the goal of the Mixed Media Paper kits is to not only inspire, but to educate as well!

Now, that leads me to the project I am sharing with you today. I have been following along with Sandee when she does her Sunday with Sandee Series. (If you have missed these, you are missing out! Click HERE to get caught up!) I casually mentioned to her how terrified I was of Art Journaling. I mean, I LOVE to look at art journaling but there is NO WAY I could ever do that! Sandee has sweetly nudged me to give it a try and after her tutorial on wax paper last Sunday, I knew I was going to have to try it! (After all, she does make it look so easy!) So, the journey for me begins!

When I told Sandee that I actually opened the journal for the first time (yes, I was that scared to start!) she asked me if it bit me. (Gotta love a girl with a sense of humor!) And good news, I had my journal open and was unharmed! I thought to myself... I can do this! And I did!!! Slowly I started to build my page and here is what I created....

I have to say.... not only was the process not miserable, but I actually had a lot of fun with it once I got started!! I might even to so far as to say, I enjoyed it and I will probably do another page (or two!)  Like all new things, I learned a lot. There are things I am really happy with and then there are things I am not so thrilled with. But the good news is, I am looking at this as a learning process, so reflecting on what worked and what didn't is part of that process!

One of the things I did that I really liked was the way I used Gesso to tone down the inks toward the center of the flower. I literally stuck my finger in the Gesso and lightly smeared it around the center of the flower and part way up between the petals. I also like the way my doodling on the flower turned out.

Another thing I was really pleased with was the overall background. I love the way some of the ink smeared together and in other places, the spots are more distinct. I also combined a Spray ink that had some shimmer to it with the Dylusions Spray Inks that have bold colors but no shimmer. To create the dots, I brushed some bubble wrap with gesso and stamped them on the background.

One of the things I wasn't happy about was the butterfly. I drew a butterfly on the page but didn't like it so I went through the October Mixed Media Paper Kit to find one of the Maya Road Die Cut Butterflies. I liked this one better so I traced over the other butterfly (yep... totally cheated!) Since I needed to cover up the old butterfly, I decided to paint the butterfly with the DecoArts Paint that was in the kit as well. Once it was dry I added some black outlines and a few pink dots to the wings. I don't love it but for now, it is staying put.

When Debbie shared her project for the October Mixed Media Kit, she pointed out how she used paint to highlight some of the words on the paper. I loved this idea and used it for my flower. (By the way, the paper is from BoBunny and was in the same kit.)

After I got the background done and added the flower to the top, I sent Sandee a photo and said "now what?!" She sweetly told me to find a quote that spoke to me to add to my page. And since I was terrified to start this art journal journey, this quote really summed it up for me! I actually conquered two fears today... I also used my own handwriting to do the journaling. I usually don't like to do that but I decided to give it a go! And the good news is, (in my opinion) it's not horrible!  :)

Now that I have shared my page with you, we would love it if you would share your pages with us! We have had a few of you share them on our FB page and we are loving it! Keep them coming! Click HERE to find our FB page.

I used items from the October Mixed Media Paper Kit. I also used the Gesso from the Mixed Media Starter kit. (If you are just getting started with Mixed Media, this is the kit for you!)

We still have a few of the October Mixed Media Paper kits in the store. And, in TWO days we will be releasing the November Mixed Media Paper Kit. And a reminder.... if you purchase a 3 month or 6 month subscription to the Mixed Media Paper Kit, we will send you a free Ranger Dylusions Creative Journal (which has a $24.99 retail price).
