Fabulous Friday Challenge - Fabric!

Friday, August 10, 2012

We wanted a challenge this week that everyone could play along with! Every crafter I know, has fabric laying around their crafty space.... pieces of fabric, fabric from clothing, fabric left over from your last project but you just couldn't part with the scraps.... you get the idea! Well, this week, we are challenging you to use Fabric on your cards, layouts and off the page projects! This is easier than you think. Before we show you what our Design Team created to inspire you we would like to wish  DT member Brenda a Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday to Brenda!

Now let's see what our DT has created.

Ashley used fabric, as the mat behind the photo on the right hand side.  She "painted" over the Fabric square with Mod Podge, to make it a little more stiff and to keep it from unraveling.  The yellow flag and the small flowers are also cut from Fabric, using the same technique.  Ashley used Sketch #217 from Creative Scrappers.

Fabric photo board

Erin used silk flowers

Lori
Lori used a piece of canvas scrapbook "paper" to cover her wooden letter "L" and added a denim bow.

Liva

Liva used torn linen cloth square as background for her picture cluster and as a narrow strip for her tag.
Jenifer used flowers made of fabric along with bling!
Note from Designer: "When my grandmother passed away, we found a couple of boxes of quilt blocks in her basement. We put them aside, hoping to think of a use for them. (A lot of them were damaged and couldn't be put into a quilt.).  I used three blocks to make this wall grouping out of wooden embroidery hoops.  I inserted a quilt block into a hoop, tightened it up, and then tucked the edges inside the back of the hoop.  I used bakers twine and small clips to hang some old photos on the smaller hoops, and then diecut a heart and the word "family" and used a tape runner to attach it to the larger hoop."

Don't we have a treat for you with this weeks sponsor...

Fabulous Friday Challenge - Weddings!

Friday, May 25, 2012

Hello and Happy Friday to everyone!! Last week's challenge really pushed some of you to try new things and we loved seeing all of the wonderful projects that were submitted! This week, we are going to simplify it for you a bit. We would like to see your Wedding Projects this week! They can be cards, layouts, or off the page projects! As long as it has a wedding theme, it will qualify! And this is a prize you are going to want to win! But first, lets show you the Design Team inspiration!

The cute little bride and groom hearts were made as a tutorial here at Frosted Designs a few months back. Click HERE for the tutorial!

Jenifer used some older grid patterned paper that she had lying around to create a pillow box, as a favor filled with mints.  She choose this paper because it was patterned but also very simple. She decorated the top very heavily with a bow and floral pics. The rice bag is made using a sqaure of Webster's Pages netting. Look closely and you will see the silver thread work throughout. She also decorated the rice bag with the same floral pics and a different size silver ribbon. Last but not least Jenifer also decorated a votive as a table decor, keeping with the same silver and white theme, also using floral pics!

Brenda used the Copic Atyou Spica Glitter Pen to color the wedding rings on this stamp.

Welcome to this week's sponsor..... COPIC!

Sketch Markers come in all 346 colors. The replaceable Super Brush nib acts like a paintbrush in both feel and application. Sketch Markers feature refillable ink and optional nibs and are compatible with the Copic Airbrush System.
Copic has been very generous with us and they have given us the amazing prize to give away...

Yep... that is 12 markers! This prize is worth over $80!!!! Wow!!
Packaged in a clear plastic case, a Sketch set is the ideal way to begin or add to a marker collection.

The EX series highlights the latest color releases available from Copic.

This set contains the following colors: R81, R85, R89, Y000, G000, BG000, V000, RV000, RV69, RV91, RV95, RV99
Do us a favor and stop by Copic's blog to tell them thanks for sponsoring Frosted Designs! Maybe you can do a little shopping for yourself while you are at it!!   :)   Click HERE!

You know you want to win this prize! But to win, you have to play along! We can't wait to see your wedding projects!! Good luck!

A Flower Tutorial by Jenifer!

Saturday, May 12, 2012

I am such a fan of flowers on my paper crafting projects, I love to pile as many on as possible, but that can get a little bit pricey so I love using handmade blooms!

Today I wanna share with you one of my most favorite handmade flowers, sure to add that special touch to any crafting project!!

SUPPLIES
flower punch (it does not need to be the same as mine, it just needs to be a 4 petal punch)
enough paper to punch 4 flowers
scissors
some kind of skinny stick (I use a paint brush end)

STEP 1
Punch out 4 flowers all the same size.

STEP 2
You will need to make your cuts in each flower
Flower #1 you will just cut a slit into the flower between 2 of the petals and stop in the center
Flower #2 you will need to cut a petal from your flower using a pie slice shape, also stopping in the center.
Flower #3 you will repeat the same cut as flower #2 except this time when you make your pie slice cut you need to remove 2 petals instead of just 1.

STEP 3
For the last flower you will make a very different cut. Starting in between 2 petals cut into your flower just enough to leave enough room as to not slice off petals when you start your spiral cut to the center. You can make your spiral as many layers as you wish or as little. When you are finished it should look similar to the one above.

STEP 4
Now it's time to adhere your cut flowers #1-3. All you need to do is dab a small bit of glue (fast drying works best) on the edge of the petal that was cut and slightly overlap the other side of the cut petal back to it, creating a cone shape.

STEP #5
Flower #4 is adhered a bit different. For this step you will need your skinny skinny (I used the end of a paint brush) and started at the opening of the cut flowers and wrapped in around the brush end in a spiral motion until I reached the end. I then put a dab of my fast drying glue on the bottom of the spiral cut flower and pressed the flower down over it holding firm for a few moments until it's dry.

STEP #6
When you have completed the above step you should have 4 flowers that look similar to these above.
The final step is to assemble your 4 flowers to create 1 beautiful rose.
You do this by adhering the each flower to the center of the other largest to smallest. So adhere flower #2 in #1's center and so on and so forth.

When you are done your flower should look similar to the one below!

Thanks for taking a look, I hope you have enjoyed!!!
