Show Me Sunday with Barb!

Sunday, June 24, 2012

Before I get to today's tutorial, I owe one of our designers (who is also our sponsorship coordinator) a VERY BIG apology!! I totally forgot to wish her Happy Birthday last week!! I am so sorry Amanda!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMANDA!!!
I hope you had an amazing day celebrating!!

Hello! It's Barb here and I wanted to show you a quick and easy way to create a background for your project. You can use this for cards, scrapbook layouts or off the page projects!
Here is a cute little owl I recently made. I created the owl out of patterned papers, cardstock, buttons, trim and vellum. Once it was completed, I went to mount him on the canvas but did not like the stark white background. I thought about painting the canvas but couldn't find a paint color I liked that complimented the owl. So then I thought about adding patterned paper to the background but it was too busy and distracted from the owl. My solution.... ink!!

To make the canvas to put my owl on, I took PowderPuff Chalking Ink in Lemonade (these can be ordered from Quick Quotes) and covered the entire surface and sides.

I then created stripes with removable tape. I colored over the stripes with PowderPuff Chalking Ink in Biscotti.

Once I removed the tape, I had the background I wanted.

This was a quick and easy way to create a background that was interesting without taking away from the art I created with the papers! I hope you can put my idea to work on your next project! Thanks for joining us today for Show Me Sunday!

Fabulous Friday Challenge - Make your own Embellishment!

Friday, June 22, 2012

We are back with another challenge and this one is truly one EVERYONE can play along with! If you are like most of the crafters out there, you spend a lot of money on your crafting supplies. Well, today, we are challenging you to use up the supplies you already have and make your own embellishments!! This is your chance to get creative!! Look at what our Design Team created to inspire you....

Teresa Jaye made the hearts and leaves with modeling paste, paint, and stencils

This is a canvas covered with a Dress Pattern Tissue Paper. Joni also created the flowers out of the same tissue paper.

Amanda
Amanda used the end of a Prima insert, colored it dark blue
and used it on the side of the page.

This is a 20X20 canvas. Anita created  the birds with paper and the flowers with canvas
cut with a Sizzix die and misted with inks.

Handmade embellishments: Clay angel, flowers and vines corner sticker.

Sarah made the little camera with a stamp, shrink plastic and some copics. The big camera was made with acetate, the same stamp and copics and patterned paper :)

Monique made the banner out of patterned papers from the range she was using - so it blends nicely with the whole layout.

This week we have the very well known Oh My Crafts sponsoring this challenge, and everyone knows what great specials they have over there

Card Sketch #21

Tuesday, June 19, 2012

Welcome, Everyone!  It's been very busy here at Frosted Designs.  I hop you had the opportunity to check out our Craft Space Blog Hop this past weekend.  So many beautiful spaces were shared!  If you missed it, click here to take the tour.  You won't be disappointed!
But now, it is time for our new card sketch:

The Design Team did a fabulous job with this one.  Let's take a look:

We would like to welcome Jillian Vance as our sponsor for this challenge.
All Clear Stamps

This business was started by Jillian Vance at the age of 10 years old. A very creative young lady, she decided to start a card business and sell them at her mom's salon. Then after needing sentiments that she couldn't find anywhere, she decided to fill the niche in the clear stamp market she felt was missing.  Read more about this amazing young lady and her business here.

She is offering the Perfect Day Stamp Set as the prize:

Once again, we look forward to your submissions!
