Show Me Sunday - A Tutorial by Laurie!

Sunday, May 27, 2012

Good morning everyone, I have a simple but cute basket tutorial to share with you today.  This basket can be used for a number of occasions...Easter, a party favor for birthdays, showers, or even just to sit on your desk and hold little items... The first thing you want to do is cut a piece of patterned paper 6" x 6".  It's best to use a sturdy piece of paper and double sided pattern paper is fun to use too so the inside of the basket is as pretty as the outside.
Next you want to measure over 2" and cut a slit up into the paper 2" as shown above.
Next, take a ruler and bone folder and score down the middle of the paper where you cut those lines so you can fold your paper into a little box...
Your paper should fold into a box after you have scored all four sides...
this is what it will look like when all the scoring and folding is done...
Next, cut a strip of paper, 1 1/2" by 8 1/2 " long.  This will be your basket handle.
You can use decorative scissors to cut your  handle and extra paper to make it look the way you want...
Now, take the center flap on one side of the paper that you have scored and folded and fold the center flap up.  Next, grab the two end pieces and bring them together so they meet like in the photo above.  Then you want to punch a hole in all three layers with a small hole punch.
Punch a hole into your basket handle also....
Attach your handle to the basket with a brad.  I like to put the decorative side of the brad on the inside so that the flat part is on the outside, you will be covering this up with an embellishment of your choosing.  This way the inside of the box isn't showing the brad prongs.
Now all that's left is to add something to the outside to complete your basket.  I made ten of these for my daughter's birthday party and filled them with nail polish, candy, etc. and the girls just loved them.  I made them all different to match their personalities and they thought that was just great! Have fun with this, it's really easy and there are so many different ways to decorate it. :)

Fabulous Friday Challenge - Weddings!

Friday, May 25, 2012

Hello and Happy Friday to everyone!! Last week's challenge really pushed some of you to try new things and we loved seeing all of the wonderful projects that were submitted! This week, we are going to simplify it for you a bit. We would like to see your Wedding Projects this week! They can be cards, layouts, or off the page projects! As long as it has a wedding theme, it will qualify! And this is a prize you are going to want to win! But first, lets show you the Design Team inspiration!

The cute little bride and groom hearts were made as a tutorial here at Frosted Designs a few months back. Click HERE for the tutorial!

Jenifer used some older grid patterned paper that she had lying around to create a pillow box, as a favor filled with mints.  She choose this paper because it was patterned but also very simple. She decorated the top very heavily with a bow and floral pics. The rice bag is made using a sqaure of Webster's Pages netting. Look closely and you will see the silver thread work throughout. She also decorated the rice bag with the same floral pics and a different size silver ribbon. Last but not least Jenifer also decorated a votive as a table decor, keeping with the same silver and white theme, also using floral pics!

Brenda used the Copic Atyou Spica Glitter Pen to color the wedding rings on this stamp.

Welcome to this week's sponsor..... COPIC!

Sketch Markers come in all 346 colors. The replaceable Super Brush nib acts like a paintbrush in both feel and application. Sketch Markers feature refillable ink and optional nibs and are compatible with the Copic Airbrush System.
Copic has been very generous with us and they have given us the amazing prize to give away...

Yep... that is 12 markers! This prize is worth over $80!!!! Wow!!
Packaged in a clear plastic case, a Sketch set is the ideal way to begin or add to a marker collection.

The EX series highlights the latest color releases available from Copic.
