Create In Color with Tamiko

Happy Sunday and Season's Greetings!  Tamiko here  and I am playing in my Rummage and Ransack Mixed Media Kit!  I am truly enjoying it! I have been taking  it with me whenever I go out and may wind out sitting a spell.  Let me remind you what our lovely kit looks like.. Shall I?  :)

Ok.. My mission for today's featured page was-
Scavenge item 30: Four Squares
Alteration 59: Add music
Alteration 58: Color outside the lines

(yeahhh!!)  I knew when I sat down i would need to use my paints.  I felt the need to be bright and colorful and use black and white as my accent colors.  This is what i came up with..

  
I covered my page in gesso, force of habit.  I like my paint to move, not soak into my paper.  Plus my sheets are thin, so it adds a little support to the page.  I then cut four squares out of music papers, killing 2 birds with one stone! Booyah!  You can see the bars and notes through the paint, I didn't gesso those areas.. Then I took my water soluble pencil and drew squares again around the boxes.. and proceeded to color *OUTSIDE the lines* with the contrasting colors., Then I took a bit of gesso on my finger and added it to the squares.. and brought those outside colors.. back INSIDE the boxes.  Under normal circumstances those colors would and could have created brown in some parts, if I wanted it to.  Since I didn't want it to happen, that explains why I added gesso and painted over the gessoed areas.  I then I got out my stencil.. I decided I wanted windows.. On my squares, which now looked like skyscrapers to me. I stenciled over areas with various colors including the black for shadowing purposes.  I then took my Sakura Koi waterbrush and intensified the darkness on my black pencil markings by applying the wet brush to it! Then I used my Unibal Signo white gel pen to add accents on windows, doodled some wording (which reads, create in color <3) and some highlights (over my large lettering)  I wrote Create In Color in Black with my Sakura Identi-Pen from the kit!

What Story Would It Tell?? (Guest Designer)

Good Morning!  My name is Melissa and I am excited to be a Guest Designer today!


I enjoy using things from Frosted Designs to create projects and pages in my Art Journals, especially things from the Frosted Designs Kits!

I had such a great time learning to draw fairies with the first Sundays with Sandee Kit - Moonlit Dreams that I ordered the second one, Rummage and Ransack, just after it came out!



Now to get started ...

Only getting started didn't happen like I thought it would ...

Has that ever happened to you?

One day when I sat down to work, I opened the Pocket Scavenger book that was in the kit to a random page:


As soon as I saw that #43 was Something That Was Discarded, I knew where I needed to Rummage and Ransack! I am friends with the media specialist in a library at a nearby elementary school. Her volunteers save books from the discard pile that they think I will enjoy using for my projects and creations! 

As I was rummaging and ransacking through my collection of discarded books, I found a library card from 1987! Do you remember those cards that were found in the backs of books that we had to sign?  Looking at the card, I began to wonder about the stories and bits of history that card could tell ...


Another fun thing you can find in the Pocket Scavenger book are ideas for ways to alter things! Those can be found at the bottom of each page, so I turned the book upside down and flipped to another random page. Here is what I found:


Light bulbs started going off in my mind ...

There is paint and a stencil in the Rummage and Ransack kit ...

I decided to see if I could use only things found in the kit to complete the page ...

And I almost succeeded!


(The pink pen came from the Moonlit Dream kit)

So now I had a discarded library card, supplies, and a blank page ...

I don't know about you, but sometimes a blank page makes my mind go blank, so I have no ideas ...

Then there are times that a blank page makes the ideas in my mind go wild, so I have way too many ideas to keep track of ...

I decided to start simple and just start doodling on the page to see what happened ...


My doodle resembled an extra large library card ...

So I started thinking about what to add next ...

I thought it needed a splash of color ...


(I also added a paintbrush that did not come in the kit, but this was the only time I used it)

In an effort not to add way too much, I decided it was time to add the library card ...

But maybe I should add something to the library card first ...

Part of me wanted to add more ...

I could add ribbons, flowers, buttons, glitter ....

But part of me thought it might be time to stop ...

I normally listen to the part of me that wanted to add more, but this time I decided to take the advice from the other part!


So I know I am a bit biased, but I think the result is spectacular or at least kinda neat! :)

I wonder what story the library card would tell about its involvement in this creation ...

Attitudes

Hi everyone!
I know that along with the holidays also comes stress.
And I guess this was on my mind when I was thinking of what to create in my Rummage and Ransack journal.
It's funny how your thoughts come into play in your art, just like in life, what we think is what we portray to the world.

You can't have a good day
with a bad attitude...
and you can't have a bad day
with a good attitude!


So, my 2 alterations were:
Drip paint on it ( the rain )
and
Drip coffee or tea on it ( the puddles )

Fun and messy, my kind of art.
I used the acrylic paints and the Ident pen to create my pages.

All that wetness created some warped and wrinkly pages though.

So I ironed them by placing a piece of white paper between the two sheets and ironing from the backside. Well, let me say...not the best idea I've ever had. Where the paint was thin, it worked great, but where the paint was thick, it melted the paint, softening it up, and the paper stuck to it. Just glad I was ironing the backside of the paper or could you imagine what I would have done to my iron? But on the bright side, the paper flattened out beautifully! lol
Oh well, lessons for the impatient and not too brainy artist! 

There is nothing more fun and stress busting than dripping and splattering some paint around, especially when you aren't feeling all that creative. It's relaxing to just have some pretty colors oozing their way down the page!

 I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and try to remember to have a good attitude, even if the turkey is dry, your sister-in-law is nuts or your family is dysfunctional......
oh wait, I think I am describing my Thanksgiving of years past!!

Rummage & Ransack with Tamiko

Hi everyone.. Tamiko here!  I live right outside Chicago, Illinois and we saw snow flurries several times just yesterday!  Fall is more than here!  I needed a coat and hat when I scurried to the grocery store this morning. That says one thing to me!  I better get use to being INSIDE the house more than OUTSIDE, pretty soon.

I picked up my pocket scavenger and browsed through some pages.  I love to get my family and friends involved in what I do, just as I like to be included in their various ventures. Some friends gave me the scavenge items and alterations for the following pages.  I spent time indoors using supplies I would have never just thought on my own to put together.  It was fun & I had a ball!

My first page came from Scavenged item: #71 UPC code; My alterations were: #59 to add music and #167 go away for 5 minutes, then come back and doodle!
I added multiple UPC codes that I cut from various packages to the page along the border, made the image from music papers, and doodled and slightly masked the UPC codes.. very fun.  Doodles were done with my Signo Unibal gel pen..






My second page came from Scavenged item: #33 a rock tracing. My alterations came from #98 connect this item to something you love and  #127 let the your gut tell you what to do...  (sounds like a free pass to play to me!!)
My second page was a tracing of a rock from outside ::giggles::  At first when I saw the rock, I saw a heart.. then as I looked further I saw a coffee cup (could have been the fact that I needed coffee.. smiles).  My gut told me to use my oil pastels and create a colorful background, so I did.  Any page with coffee is ok with me.


My third page came from Scavenged item: #53 something left by an animal; My alterations are #167 to frame it and #3 to alter the edges.
 My second page I decided to do cat paws.. and I honestly should have chosen doggy paws.. Since I am more of a dog person.. (smile) I framed it with washi tape and altered the edges by stenciling a few paint colors.  I also left the words.. Cats leave paw prints.. in my driveway!  ::giggle:: because they do!  Must be a few strays in the neighborhood.. or some nosey neighbor's cat always leaving paw prints in the drive..


These pages don't have to be hard.  They are fun and outside of investing in the Rummage and Ransack Kit.. you really can make numerous games with different ages and create awesome pages.

HOLD ON! TIME OUT! SORRY FOR THE INTERUPTION!! 
Hello everyone! It's Barb here and I just had to stop in and do a little shout out to Miss Sandee!! As most of you know, she has been on a journey with one very large bear and she has some news to share!! Be sure to stop by her blog HERE to read all about it!!

Hi everyone, Sandee here today with the Rummage and Ransack kit from Frosted Designs. I love working in the Pocket Scavenger because I don't have to think very hard in coming up with an idea of what to make. I find it very relaxing to just thumb through the journal and find a scavenge or a alteration prompt that clicks with me and then off I go!

This week I combined 2 alterations:
1.Cut into pieces and rearrange
and 
2.scribble on top.

 I like to keep my alterations so handy, ↑ since I cut out the page, ( well, it did say cut it out...ok, I could have cut out a magazine image or something.... but I didn't! lol ) I also cut out the alteration directions from those pages and pasted them onto the bottom so they could be referenced for later ideas for future journal pages.

The feather came with the page so I grouped my paper cutouts around it and then used the Ident pen that comes with the kit to scribble in between the pieces.

I didn't make a video for today but I created a short journal flip so that you can see what I have been up to. There is some music so turn down your volume!

Rummage & Ransack with Tamiko

Howdy folks! It's Tamiko on the blog today and I am playing with the new KIT!

When I first saw this kit, I automatically thought, it looks like a travel on the go kit.  Everything fits in a small bag and you can.. literally.. get up and go and have a small adventure.

The book contains a list in the back which I copied and began scavenging my stash.  I found a lot of things right away and secured then inside my book on the pages with Washi Tape. lol  I even used washi tape as one of my items.  My book is thick and I don't mind!!  I like BIG BOOKs. ::giggles::

I decided when I use the book, I would have 1 scavenger item and at least 2 alterations.  I even made a game of it and let others choose my items to create a page with.

This week I let Sandee Setliff choose.  For my first page 
She gave me Scanvenge item #10 - a napkin
Alterations #129 add colored paper and #150 to combine



So I took the napkin I had already taped to my page, used only the first layer and used some matte medium to adhere it to the page, then I used my gelatos to *combine and extend the size of the napkin to a full page. I added the color paper as a boarder and and doodled with a white Signo gel pen.  Page is done and I have art in my book!

She also gave me a second page.. 
I got scavenged item #12- a post it note! (yikes)
Alterations -Make it a building (house) from one of the intro pages and #86 write and ode to this item (waves fist in air.. OH NO!! write???) 



I created a background for my page with gesso and 3 acrylic paints. I cut my post-it to the shape of a small house.  Believe it or not these items were already doodled on the post-it. (smiles)  I then glued it to my page with Helmars 450.  Wrote my version of an ode with the Identipen (included in the kit) and framed it; added some shading to the house with my charcoal pencil from the kit; and topped it all with some Signo white pen doodles.  Page is Done!  More artwork in my book!

My ode reads:
to the tune of ABC song

M.Y.H.O.U.S.E
Filled with love and chocolate things
Coffee and small pastry bites
Craft filled table with delights

Music blasting in my ears,
Drowns out all the noise my dears.

M.Y.H.O.U.S.E
how special and perfect you are to me
  It's not long.. but neither is my page! (laughs)


I think the hardest thing for me is to decide to commit to the items I have pre-chose and selected to include on my page. The whole thing has been fun and will continue to be fun.  There are over 70 items to scavenge and about 180 alterations!  Who could go bored with that?

Rummage & Ransack kit ( The Pocket Scavenger )

Hi everyone, I am so excited to announce that I have a new love!
I do!
It's The Pocket Scavenger and I included it in our new kit

When I opened it, I found myself giggling over the prompts and just couldn't resist immediately playing along. The book suggests that you be honest and accept what ever alteration that you get, especially when doing a flip. So along with their suggestion to add an envelope to the front of the book to collect what you scavenge, I made it into a vehicle!

The next page which was a title page to the book only had an alteration to it, to draw a funny character. By this time, I am so hooked! lol

The next page, I think was more copyright info and publishing stuff, I don't remember as I immediately covered it up and made it into a building! See, this book can be quite addicting!

Here's the page I did in the video. I have made a decision to not add bulky items, only because I like my books to lay flat, but feel free to add whatever you want, however you want to your book! You know you want it! It's FUN!
