Fabulous Friday Challenge - Office Supplies

Friday, August 31, 2012

What a great week it was last week to see everyone using Chipboard on their projects.  Some very talented ladies out there for sure!
This week is Office Supplies.  What a great chance to use some school supplies.  Let's see what the design team has created this week for some inspiration.

Lydia has repurposed an old 3 ring binder to hold photos of her son's many "model" poses.

Sarah made her own die cut tags out of a manilla file folder then stitched them together to hold her hidden journaling.

Sarah G.

Sarah G. used index cards to make a mini album. She chose her fav photos from last year and scrapped them along the lines of A is for Adventures; B is for Brothers, C is for Cuddles and Hugs ... you get the idea. She bound it all together between a chipboard cover with large book rings. This is a great way to complete a year in review album quickly and effortlessly )

Anita used staples and journaled on a Post-it note.

Child's Reminder Board
Teresa Jaye made an alphabet writing practice set out of manilla file folders and index cards

Carol made her 1st "Junk Journal" using "junks" like paper scraps, old notecards (Egypt themed), product packaging, old jeans etc. Office supplies used: different paper clips, staplers, book rings.

We would like to welcome back Karen from The Paper Trail

Now a little about The Paper Trail
"I have been paper crafting for over 14 years now and really feel that it is an invaluable service to my family and generations to come. I have 3 daughters who are my inspiration and I love the creative outlet it provides me. Seeing the pages that my daughters and family will cherish come to life gives me great satisfaction. Why did I name my store "The Paper Trail?” Well, for me, scrapbooking is all about leaving a paper trail of you for your family and future generations to come. Webster’s dictionary defines paper trail as: documents from which a person's actions may be traced. Doesn’t that just sum up exactly what we do when we create a scrapbook page? We leave a trail of us – what we have done, who we are, etc.
I have opened a store so that you have options available to help you create the best trail that you can.
Our website address is: www.leaveapapertrail.com where we have a blog and online store. If you are ever in the Fayetteville, NC area - stop in at the store and say hi!
Happy Trail Makin’
~Karen"
This is a beautiful prize that Karen has put together, head on over to her shop to have a look at all scrapping supplies that your just going to have to add to your cart

We really look forward to seeing all the wonderful creations this week. And please remember, one entry per person!
You have until noon (Central Time) Thursday, September the 6th to link up your project!

Show Me Sunday - A Tutorial by Teresa!

Sunday, August 26, 2012

Hello!  Teresa Jaye here - today I'm bringing you a tutorial on using crackle medium.
I used the Tim Holtz "Caged Bird" Sizzix Bigz die and "Rock Candy" Ranger Distress Crackle Paint to create these adorable birds: (click on photos to enlarge)
Here are the supplies you'll need: Birds die cut from chipboard, crackle paint, two shades of brown ink (one darker and one lighter), inking tool, background stamp, clear or brown embossing powder, and dark brown or black pearls to use for eyes.
After die cutting the birds, stamp them with the background stamp using either color of brown ink and heat emboss. I used Ranger Archival ink in Sepia and clear embossing powder by Stampin' Up.
Paint a thin layer of crackle paint on the birds. The first layer will soak in so a thin layer is fine.
Let them dry.
After the crackle paint is dry, flex the pieces to encourage crackling then lightly go over them with the lighter color brown ink, the ink will seep in to the cracks so the crackle shows up. (Make sure you use permanent ink such as Ranger Archival or Staz-On at this stage because if you use water based your brush will pick up the ink and contaminate your container of crackle paint.)
Now paint on a thick layer of crackle paint. This will take a while to dry.
After they are dry, flex the pieces a bit in both directions to encourage crackling then go over them again with the lighter brown ink. Keep applying light coats of ink until you are happy with how they look.
Now go around the edges of the pieces and shade the lower portions of the birds and wings with the darker brown ink. I used Ranger Distress ink in Vintage Photo.
Adhere the wings and eyes to the bodies. Aren't they pretty? Look at what a difference between the plain chipboard and the crackle distressed pieces!
(the lower two birds were cut using the Spellbinders Bird Sanctuary die)
Here is my finished project. I also used the same technique on the Scrabble tiles (lightly sand the tiles first so the paint will adhere to them).
The rest of the details for this Love Birds Canvas can be seen here.
Thanks for joining me, I hope you are inspired to give this technique a try!
Stop by my blog to see what other fun I am having!

Fabulous Friday Challenge - Chipboard!

Friday, August 24, 2012

We are back with another great challenge, but before we talk about that, we have some changes to share with you! You may have noticed that our Card Sketch Team and our Sketch Along Tuesdays Layout team have both announced that they have shared their last challenges. Here at Frosted Designs, we started out by posting challenges on Friday that encouraged you to use up the supplies you already own... well, we have decided to go back to our roots. Once the current card and layout sketch challenges end, we will no longer offer challenges on Tuesdays. But don't be sad because we have an amazing team of designers who have agreed to stay on and share more inspiration with you over the next six months for our Fabulous Friday Challenges!!  I am excited to say that we will be announcing those teams tarting with our September 7th challenge.
In the mean time, we have a new challenge to get to!
This week we challenge you to use chipboard on your project.

And we can't forget that we have two August birthdays to share....
Happy birthday to Debbie and Diana!
Now let's see what our DT has to share with you:

"I had these chipboard letters in my stash, and while I loved the style, I had a hard time using the colors and patterns.
In order to get a different look, I sanded the letters to remove part of the smooth finish, then basecoated them with white acrylic paint, and once that coat was dry I painted them with Antique Linen crackle paint.  Once that layer was dry and crackled, I lightly spritzed the letters with a white mist to complete the "beachy" look for this layout."

Liva used Tim Holtz Grungeboard wings - covered with acrylic paint, crackled with Crackle Accents
and lightly added Holly stickles.

Lori covered chipboard with scrapbook paper and created this day counter for the teachers!

Lori used chipboard letters from my stash on this canvas.  Lori painted some home made glaze over them to tone them down a bit, then randomly covered some of the letters with embossing powder and heat embossed them.

We have a great prize for you this week....

A $20 Gift Certificate to my favorite store....
