SHOW ME SUNDAY BY: Libeeti

Sunday, January 30, 2011

Hi everyone! It's Libeeti here and I'd like to show you how to make an exploding box. It is much easier to make it than you might think, and the outcome is WOW!
With Valentine's Day around the corner, this exploding box can be the perfect gift to your loved ones.

You'll need:

3 heavy weight paterned papers - 12"x 12", 11 1/4 " x 11 1/4 ", 10 1/2 x 10 1/2".
Solid cs in coordinating color (for the lid) - 6 3/4" x 6 3/4".
a trimmer or a metal ruler & crafting knife
scoring tool (bone folder or something like that)
scissors
a pencil
double sided tape
likuid glue
optional - distress inks, corner punch
photos (abotu 12-20 photos, or less if you choose to leave some of the squares without photos)
embellishments
Step 1:

On the 12"x12" pp, mark with a pencil at 4" and 8".
On the 11 1/4 " x 11 1/4" pp, mark at 3 3/4" and 7 1/2 ".
On the 10 1/2" x 10 1/2" pp, mark at 3 1/2 and 7".
Draw lines so you'll get 9 squares on each pp.

Step 2:
On each of the pp, cut the 4 outer squares, so you'll get a cross shape.

Step 3:

Score the lines of the inner square. Do the same for the other two pp.
This is what you should get:

Step 4:

Adhere the outer squares that you cut before on the other side of each wing of the cross, the inner white side. Do the same for each square, and this is what you should get:

I inked the inner squares of each cross and then I adhered a square solid cs on the inner square of the smallest cross:

At this point, you can use the corner punch on all corners (I didn't...)

Step 5:

For the lid -
Score lines 1 1/4" from each end, so that's what you should get:

Turn the cs, and score diagonal lines on the small outer squares:

If you wish to embellish the lid with brads or eyelets, this is the time to do it (it will be difficult to do it once you fold the lid and adhere it).

Step 6:

Put double sided tape on the inner side of the 4 small outer squares:

You'll need to do it on both sides of the diagonal line (I forgot to do it, and had to adhere later, so watch out... )

Step 7:

Fold the sides up along the lines. Fold the corners along the diagonal lines:

Adhere the corners on the inside part and you finished your lid:

Embellish the lid as you wish.

Step 7:

Adhere your photos and embellishments on the different squares.

Step 8:

Put some liquid glue on the inner square of the middle cross, and adhere the small cross to it:

Do the same on the inner square of the big cross, and adhere the two other parts to it:

Fold all the edges and hold with the lid, and there you got your exploding box!

It is really quite easy to make it. Give it a try and if you do, please leave us a link on the comment section, so we'll be able to pop over and leave you some love.

Enjoy it!

Fabulous Friday Challenge!

Friday, January 28, 2011

It's Friday and we all know what that means... another Fabulous Friday Challenge!! This week we are asking you to work with one color.... that's right... this week is a Monochromatic Challenge!!

We have a wonderful sponsor this week.... Craft Your Passion! We were lucky enough to have two designers digis to work with. I will tell you more about them but first, meet our Guest Designer....

Susan

Hi, I'm Susan, from the UK and I LOVE crafting but hate talking about myself :P My card-making has really taken off since the advent of digi images, I'm completely rubber-challenged, and the new format of stamps makes things so much better for me. So much so that I started creating my own digi papers; the papers I used for today's challenge card were created by me specifically for this card, I just love being able to do that. I was very honoured (and even more suprised) when Barb asked me to be a GDT for Frosted Designs and I used the wonderful Rockette Wedding by this week's sponsor.

Here is the gorgeous card Susan made....

Be sure to stop by Susan's Blog, Susan's Crafty Chaos.... you can find it HERE!

Thank you Susan for joining our team this week!

Susan used one of the digis (Rockette Wedding) from CocoDinGo's Digital Stamps....

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

It just seems like yesterday when we all welcomed in the new year, and hard to believe in less then a week January will come to an end and February will be upon us.  Libeeti has created our sketch for this challenge and we can't wait to see what you create:

We want to welcome back Kim our guest designer for the month of January and share with you her take on Libeeti's sketch:

For more details on Kim's layout, you can visit her blog here.

We'd like to introduce our guest designer for this week's challenge Wendy Crowe.

Here is a little about Wendy:
My name is Wendy and I live in the Southwest suburbs of Chicago.  I have been working full time as an administrative assistant for the past 22 years.   My love of scrapbooking started 12 years ago when I decided it was time to do something useful with boxes and boxes of pictures.  The main subjects of my projects are my supportive and understanding husband of 13 years and our 3 awesome kids.  What started off as a small project to get the pictures out of the box, has now turned into a full blown obsession.   I love the weekly inspiration from the sketches and the Design Team…and the friends I have made.
Here is Wendy's take on Libeeti's sketch:

For more details on Wendy's layout, you can visit her blog here.

Now let's see what are designers have created this week:
