I combine 2 pages with their alterations today. The "scavenge" was a fortune from a fortune cookie. Well, since I haven't had one of those in ages, I decided to draw mine and make my own fortune up! The "alteration" was also the perfect journaling prompt for me right now as I am busy moving into my first official art studio located in a gallery downtown and it said to ask yourself 5 questions...you can see what's on my mind these days!!
I went minimalist on the supplies I used to create the pages too. I mainly used the charcoal pencils and the I-dent pent plus a few other things. The charcoal pencils that come in the kit are 6B's which means they are soft and very dark. Easy to smudge with your finger or a charcoal stump and if you need to add highlights then simply erase. The other "alteration" was to add some sort of teeny tiny decoration so I added some song notes to the stamped bird image.
You can also take a water brush and wet the charcoal edges to intensify the color and create some shadowing. I used the I-dent pen and the charcoal pencil together for the writing I added to the page.
I really enjoy the prompts in this book as I have never thought to do a fortune cookie page. It was a lot of fun and very easy using only the simplistic of supplies. I could have gone back in and added some color with the oil pastels from the kit, but I don't know...I just like the black and white scheme playing off the red color in the book.
