Show Me Sunday with Barb!

Sunday, June 24, 2012

Before I get to today's tutorial, I owe one of our designers (who is also our sponsorship coordinator) a VERY BIG apology!! I totally forgot to wish her Happy Birthday last week!! I am so sorry Amanda!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMANDA!!!
I hope you had an amazing day celebrating!!

Hello! It's Barb here and I wanted to show you a quick and easy way to create a background for your project. You can use this for cards, scrapbook layouts or off the page projects!
Here is a cute little owl I recently made. I created the owl out of patterned papers, cardstock, buttons, trim and vellum. Once it was completed, I went to mount him on the canvas but did not like the stark white background. I thought about painting the canvas but couldn't find a paint color I liked that complimented the owl. So then I thought about adding patterned paper to the background but it was too busy and distracted from the owl. My solution.... ink!!

To make the canvas to put my owl on, I took PowderPuff Chalking Ink in Lemonade (these can be ordered from Quick Quotes) and covered the entire surface and sides.

I then created stripes with removable tape. I colored over the stripes with PowderPuff Chalking Ink in Biscotti.

Once I removed the tape, I had the background I wanted.

This was a quick and easy way to create a background that was interesting without taking away from the art I created with the papers! I hope you can put my idea to work on your next project! Thanks for joining us today for Show Me Sunday!
