Show Me Sunday - A Tutorial by Laurie!

Good morning everyone, I have a simple but cute basket tutorial to share with you today.  This basket can be used for a number of occasions...Easter, a party favor for birthdays, showers, or even just to sit on your desk and hold little items... The first thing you want to do is cut a piece of patterned paper 6" x 6".  It's best to use a sturdy piece of paper and double sided pattern paper is fun to use too so the inside of the basket is as pretty as the outside.
Next you want to measure over 2" and cut a slit up into the paper 2" as shown above.
Next, take a ruler and bone folder and score down the middle of the paper where you cut those lines so you can fold your paper into a little box...
Your paper should fold into a box after you have scored all four sides...
this is what it will look like when all the scoring and folding is done...
Next, cut a strip of paper, 1 1/2" by 8 1/2 " long.  This will be your basket handle.
You can use decorative scissors to cut your  handle and extra paper to make it look the way you want...
Now, take the center flap on one side of the paper that you have scored and folded and fold the center flap up.  Next, grab the two end pieces and bring them together so they meet like in the photo above.  Then you want to punch a hole in all three layers with a small hole punch.
Punch a hole into your basket handle also....
Attach your handle to the basket with a brad.  I like to put the decorative side of the brad on the inside so that the flat part is on the outside, you will be covering this up with an embellishment of your choosing.  This way the inside of the box isn't showing the brad prongs.
Now all that's left is to add something to the outside to complete your basket.  I made ten of these for my daughter's birthday party and filled them with nail polish, candy, etc. and the girls just loved them.  I made them all different to match their personalities and they thought that was just great! Have fun with this, it's really easy and there are so many different ways to decorate it. :)
