Hello everyone. This is Annette from A. Spoon of Sugar with a fun tutorial on how to make a pop up card. They may look intimidating, but they are really quite simple once you learn the technique. I will break it down into a few easy steps so you can make a fun pop up card, too.
1. The first and most important step is to plan ahead. I don't always sketch out my cards first, but I do when I make a pop up card. (P.S. Don't make fun of my terrible drawing skills. I can't draw. That's why I love stamps so much! LOL!)
2. Gather your supplies and start preparing the pieces you want to "pop" from your card. You can use die cut images or fussy cut your images from stamps like I did.
3. Draw lines on the card where you will cut the slits. You will cut from the fold and work your way to the open end. The longer the slit, the higher and further out it will be.
4. Start cutting.
Here is what it will look like when you're finished.
5. Open the inside of your card and pull the slits forward.
The outside of your card will look like this:
6. Adhere your images onto the slits.
7. Remember the picture in step five? The one showing the outside of the card? Well, it's ugly, so you'll need to cover it up with some card stock.and then decorate the front of your card.
Voila!! You're done!
I decided to embellish the inside of my card a little bit after I made it by adding a red and white striped background to mimic a circus tent and green grass on the bottom. Then I found a clown and cut him out to look like he's floating away.
There you have it. The mystery has been revealed. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and it inspired you to try this fun, whimsical technique!!
