Season of Stars with Joni!

Tuesday, December 3, 2013

As the holidays are quickly approaching, I always find myself reminiscing about past years.  I guess that goes along with "time flies" and the fact that my one and only son is now TEN years old!!

So when I spread out the Season of Stars December kit and the add-on on my scrapbook table, I knew I wanted to do a couple shots from this past year, but I also wanted to dig out some older (favorite) photos.

Now...before I share...I want to say that I have "used up" my kit...I have no paper left but I still have a few embellishments of this and that...and of course some of the washi tape.
But I completed EIGHT layouts and 2 cards.
I'm so thrilled that I got so much out of this kit!!
So today, I'm going to share my FAVORITE FOUR layouts and then later this month, I'll share the rest.

This was the first layout that I created.  I layered the tags with some of the trim, Teresa Collins chipboard & misted the flower to cover up a print on the paper that I thought was distracting for my specific theme of my layout (it's a cute design...just didn't work for me on this)!

I added Kraft cardstock from my stash and on the left photo mat (vertical), I was trying to figure out how to use the transparency that came in the kit.
I ended up tracing the first 3 trees, then flipping it over to line up the center (small) tree and then trace the larger ones again.  I colored them in with my Copics and topped them with the BoBunny Rhinestones.
Sorry for the glare on the photo, hard to get a shot of that transparency showing what I did!

Next I wanted to play with the really cool gold starred kraft cardstock sheet from Studio Calico.

I toned down my photo area with some paint, then added some hearts in the paint using a Heidi Swapp Heart mask (available in the Frosted Designs store).
I also painted 3 of the chipboard words from the add-on and used them as my staggered title elements.
Just a few strips of the Carta Bella papers & some of the Washi tape for a touch of color behind my photo.
I added some of the sequin stars and bling and the gold star clip for accents.

Next, I had some older Santa pics that I sized smaller and I really enjoy doing a good graphic style/color blocking layout!
So, my trick is to build the layout on the 8.5x11 and then add it to 12x12 paper and then "connect it" somehow.  I used lots of the different embellishments on this layout and then my connection is the stars that bleed from the 8.5x11 onto the 12x12 sheet.

I had fun with this little cluster of wood, chipboard & sequin elements.

And the last one for today...is actually the VERY LAST layout that I completed.
Yep, I 'm going to show you NUMBER EIGHT.....
Why?  Because it's one of my four favorites...isn't that funny...I was down to scraps of my papers and decided to try to use them up.  Ended up being one of my favorites.

I added a lot of stitching to hold the top and bottom borders together, and I left a lot of white space to give your eye room to rest since I have so many different patterns on this page.   I wanted to show a close up of the tag since it's hard to see how I used the rhinestones on it.  And that little strip of red rhinestones was a leftover ... again, using up my scraps!!

So...I hope you like my first four layouts with the December kit and add-on.

The combination of different paper lines and awesome embellishments made this fun and really easy to tap into my creative juices!!
I had an absolute blast playing with this kit and really encourage you to grab one.

Barb is Sharing some Christmas Magic!

Monday, December 2, 2013

Hello Everyone! I am so excited to share two of the layouts I created with the
 Season of Stars Scrapbooking Kit!

This kit is filled with fun little embellishments and a beautiful mix of papers!

All of the Patterned Papers in this kit are double-sided which means you have double the possibilities! The paper I used for the background on this layout is the back of the BoBunny Ornament Paper. The Santa with his reindeer were the perfect background for this photo of my daughter from 2003. (Where does the time go?!)

I love the gold/white mesh ribbon that is included in this kit! It is reversible (gold on one side, white on the other) and it adds texture without a lot of bulk. And did I mention that it is sparkly?!  :)

I used the Studio Calico Wood Veneer Starbursts to give the effect of "magic" floating down from Santa's sleigh!

I love the mix of papers in this kit! The chipboard 25 circle and the journal spot behind it are part of the add-on kit that is available when you purchase the Season of Stars Scrapbooking kit.

I covered the starbursts with some metallic gold rub and then added a red jewel to the center of each one. It added just the right amount of sparkle!

After making a "pretty" layout, I decided I wanted to make a "fun" layout! Which was easy enough to do with this mix of Teresa Collins and Carta Bella Papers! (The doily is a left over from the November Family Blessings Kit!)

The title is from the Maya Road Chipboard Words that are part of the Merry Christmas add-on. I painted them white and added some detailing with a black pen. I also added the clear die-cut embellishment from Little Yellow Bicycle.

I had some fun with my Dylusions Dirty Martini Spray Ink on this layout! I liked the splashes of color peeking out from behind my photo clusters.

And one more close up of the layout! I adore that red & white trim that comes in this kit!

Sundays with Sandee - Blotting up some spilled acrylic paint

This week is a fun and very easy technique...

Acrylic Pour
A technique where you drip or drop acrylic paint down onto your pages.

I sized this page with gesso first and then I used a gel medium and Goosebumps to add some texture. Let this stage dry thoroughly before adding the watered down acrylic paint over it.

Ink Blots
Applying your ink/paint onto one side and pressing the other side down onto it.

MOO-ving on...( sorry I could not resist )
My pages using the Acrylic Pour technique along with making Ink Blots:
And if you are a vegetarian, please excuse my quote, definitely not meant to offend anyone )
I'm not sure why I have a correlation between cows, daisies and butterflies...but there, you have it. Sometimes when we create things, they just bubble out from inside in a glorious uncontrolled mess.

I do want to strongly urge you to apply the molding paste the night before, to let it thoroughly dry before using the page and keep in mind that it acts as a resist too, so try and not get too messy with it.

A short explanation of using the acrylic pour techniques along with ink blots.

I hope you all try out the Acrylic Pour and the Ink Blots techniques and show us your journal pages, cards, scrapbook pages, whatever you make on the Frosted Designs Facebook page. As always we love seeing what you come up with and want to share what you do with everyone!
