Do you like Circles?! You're gonna love this challenge!!

Friday, August 27, 2010

Hi Everyone..!!! It's Joni again, welcoming you back to Frosted Designs this week!!  How was everyone's summer?  My little guy went back to school August 11th, and August/September is a busy time for us...all 3 of our Birthdays (mine, husband & son) and our anniversary (18 years) and my parents anniversary (53 years)...so Autumn is my favorite time of year.  Plus it starts cooling off after being 110 degrees in Phoenix for 2-3 months...so that's definately a reason to like Autumn, don't you agree?

So, when I was trying to think of what challenge I wanted to present to you, I was thinking how much I use Circles....I really do LOVE circles....and one thing I realized that I've done a few times and have beeen happy with the result .... I use Ric-Rac to make a big circle.  I like to use Ric-Rac since it "bends" nicely and doesn't need any folds or doesn't get bunched up.....does that make sense?  Ok, go try it and you'll see what I mean.

Now if you don't have any Ric-Rac, you're welcome to use some other kind of fiber, fabric or ribbon. In fact, any decorative edge will do! And you don't have to do a Big Circle...you can do a small one or several...or whatever inspires you--- Get Creative.

Here is a layout I did for this challenge, followed by 2 older layouts where I used the same technique.

This is your last week to be entered in for the drawing for the Lucky Girl Kit! Every project you submit gives you one entry! The winner will be announced Thursday!! Now take a look at what the rest of the Design Team did with their decorative edge circles!!

Diana use Fancy Pants Rusted Sun papers and embellishments that were perfect for these beach pictures of her son.

Erika
Using ric rac on this layout, Erika commented that she loves how easy it is to bend ric rac around circles.  It is a great way to highlight a photo that needs a little umph. The ric rac is a perfect fit anytime you need a little something extra for a layout!

Barb used her August Lucky Girl Kit again this week to create this LO of her daughter on her first day of preschool!

Debbie loves the added touch the rick rack gives to this layout of her daughter.

We would love to see all the fun and creative ways you can use decorative edge circles!

Back to School Challenge!!

Friday, August 20, 2010

Hi my Frosted Designs friends! How's everything going?

My name is Jessica and I live in a small town in Western Colorado. I'm a full time working mom to two fun and amazing children - Andrew, who, at 11, is already as tall as I am and Sophia, my super-funny little 7 year old. I've been married for nearly 12 years to my best friend - we met when I was just 14, and I knew then that I'd marry that boy someday. In addition to my own little family, I'm the oldest of 7, auntie and have a huge extended family beyond that! If you visit my personal blog, you'll find that my family is one of my favorite subjects to scrapbook.
I was introduced to scrapbooking by my step-mom when I was just 15. After Andrew was born, I was hooked. Scrapbooking is my getaway, my girl time and my crafty retreat. I don't scrap in order - rather, just as the mojo flows, and have waaayyy too many layouts waiting to go into albums. I've been blessed to have met some of my best friends at scrapbooking events, and we like to get together once a month for girls night out crops. I've sold for a few direct-sales companies, taught classes and hosted several crops and retreats in the last few years, and recently, took a leap of faith and opened up my own scrapbook store, Lucky Girl Crafts. I'm so excited to be sponsoring Frosted Designs this month with an awesome prize package, so I hope you'll play along in some of our challenges!

Speaking of playing along, I've got a new challenge for you! My kiddos start school on Monday, and in honor of that time of year, our theme this week is Back To School.

I have always loved school, even as a little girl, and now as a mommy, there's something about shopping for school supplies that is exciting to me! We start the first day of school with a special family breakfast at a local restaurant. Last year I forgot to take pics of the breakfast, but their first day at a new school was full of jitters! Here are my two little monkeys (and a sneak peek at the September Lucky Girl kit!)

I can't wait to see what you create!
Here is what the Design Team did this week!

Barb took advantage of the papers in her Lucky Girl Craft Kit for this LO! All of the papers, except for the background paper was from the August kit!! She took herself back to her childhood memories by doing her own doodling on her background paper!!

Pat made a set for each of my gds. The box will keep their projects, report cards, school photos in it. The milk carton is to keep erasers, clips & any other little things.

For her Back to School project Cassie altered a lunch box for her niece.

Joni's layout showcases photos from her son's First Day of Kindergarten (last year) and his First Day of 1st Grade (last week).

Kim used some Making Memories papers, Close to My Heart inks and stamps to create this first day of school layout. The yummy chipboard is from our sponsor, Lucky Girl Craft Kits. The alphas are in the Old School August kit. She created the flower using the George cart, the apple using the Making the Grade cart, and her journaling marquee with the Storybook cart.

Diana use pictures of her DD Monica's 5th grade graduation 2 years ago. She used Echo Park pp, "A Walk In The Park".

Now... with all of the kiddos heading back to school, we hope this inspires you to create something new! Please share your cards, layouts, and projects with us for your last chance to be entered into the drawing for the Lucky Girl August Kit!!

We Have a Recipe Challenge For You!!

Thursday, August 12, 2010

Hello everyone, it's me Debbie.  I want to welcome you back to Frosted Designs.  I'm so excited to host this week's challenge.  I love to incorporate a lot of elements in my layouts.  If you haven't stopped by my blog, you can check it out here.  I thought I would spice things up a bit this week and throw a recipe challenge!  Who doesn't like a good list of ingredients to choose from to make that perfect layout, card or project?  Well, I have a list of ten ingredients for you to choose from.  I chose to use all ten, but to qualify for this week's challenge you must use 5 of the ingredients on your project.

Here is a list of the ingredients:
1.  Punch or punches
2.  Felt
3.  Ribbon
4.  Pink, blue or purple
5.  Flowers
6.  Banner
7.  Bird
8.  Buttons
9.  Butterflies
10.Glitter

I found these pictures of my kids back from 1992.  I love how silly they were in the pictures and all I could think about was be happy!

Here is what the rest of the Design Team did with this Recipe Challenge....

Joni
Joni used some My Minds Eye (BLUE-1) papers.  Her title is a BANNER (2) strung together with RIBBON (3).  She has some BIRDS (4) across the very top right and an owl at the lower left.  She has BUTTONS (5) in several places & has a FLOWER (6) die cut above her journal box.

Barb had so much fun doing this layout of her daughter in Chicago that before she knew it, she had used 8 of the 10 challenge items! 1. banner, 2. butterflies, 3. color, 4. felt, 5. glitter, 6. flowers, 7. punch, 8. ribbon!

Erika reported, "this challenge really streched my imagination,  just when I thought I had 5 I realized I had taken something off. Luckily, I had so many choices it really made my layout fun to do!"  The final count is punches, flowers, glitter, buttons a butterfly and pink.  Pebbles paper line lent itself beautifully to the fun feel of this not so traditional birthday celebration!

Our August sponsor is Lucky Girl Craft Kits. Look at what you could win....

This month's winner will receive this Old School Cool Kit. Perfect for those back to school layouts!! So what are you waiting for?! Take on our Recipe Challenge and link up your project!! One project will be picked from the August entries to win this kit!! Happy crafting!!

Celebrate Life Challenge

Thursday, August 5, 2010

Welcome back to Frosted Designs! Kim here again to host the challenge this week. You can check out my blog here. You already know what a scrapaholic I am, how I love to scrap my little kids, and my obsession with ink. Since most of you are getting your kiddos ready for back to school, today I'm going to share my back to school with you...
* I teach third grade
* Our first day of school is Monday, August 9
*My favorite children's author is Megan McDonald (Judy Moody series)
*I never eat cafeteria food at school, I always brown bag it
*I arrive at school by 7:05 each day and usually stay late.

Now, I bet you want to know what this week's challenge is.....Today is my Granny's 84 Birthday!!! Happy Birthday Gran! So, in her honor, I'm challenging you to "Celebrate Life". This can be anything from baptisms, birth, birthdays, celebrating family vacations, to prom, etc. I decided to scrap a page of my Gran with Ashlea and Megan while my family was at the beach.

I simply adore this paper by Making Memories, I just added a hint of stickles to highlight the flowers and the beautiful blue birds. All supplies on this paper are Making Memories and Close to My Heart.

Our August sponsor this month is Lucky Girl Craft Kits. Take a peek at this yummy prize kit....

Jessica is also offering a special sale through the end of August -

Our Lucky Girl design team will be hosting a Blog Party from August 1-3 featuring daily project inspiration for the Old School Cool kit. Be sure to check us out at http://www.luckygirlcraftkits.blogspot.com/.

Check out what the rest of the Design Team did!

Diana
Diana used a photo of her daughter Monica's Baptism as a symbol of celebrating hew baby daughters new life in Christ.

Joni did a simple layout with some fussy cutting on the blue wave paper and journaling about her son celebrating life at the beach playing tag with the waves and just being a boy.

The white embossed cardstock Pat used made a beautiful background for this black and white layout. She did a fabulous job of letting the photo be the focus!

Cassie interpreted this challenge by making a page about one of her passions.  Cooking, eating and learning about food is one of the ways in which she celebrates life.

Barb used a combination of her June and August Lucky Girl Kits to create this layout of her parents vacationing in Cabo. Since they have retired, they are certainly Celebrating Life!!
(Look at all the yummy embellishments... all of them came with the Lucky Girl Kits!!)

Jessica
For her layout, Jessica celebrates the miracle of life. When her daughter, Sophia, was born, she was not breathing and was in severe distress. Sophia spent three days in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) before she was able to be held by her mommy. Though the time spent in the hospital was very scary, it made everyone realize how precious life is.

Now is your chance to win your own Lucky Girl Kit!! Link up your project for a chance to win!!

Need a Little Direction?! Try this challenge!!

Thursday, July 29, 2010

Hello everyone!! I'm back with a new challenge for you!! My name is Barb and I am addicted to scrapbooking and anything crafty!! I guess that is why I named my blog Crafty Girl!! I think it fits... don't you?!! You can find my blog by clicking HERE!! In fact, if you stop over and visit my blog, I might just have a little side challenge that goes along with this one!! hee hee!!!

Since I have already told you about myself and my family, I thought I would tell you some things you probably don't know about me!!

1. I HATE winter!! I am excited to be moving from Indiana to Texas... I think I can handle Texas winters so much better!!
2. I am a fix it/build it kind of person! When those kind of projects need done in our house, I am the one who does it!!
3. I actually like to mow the lawn.... it is relaxing and everyone leaves me alone!! It's just me and my tractor out there!!! LOL!!
4. I really believe that chocolate makes everything better!!!
5. I really don't like to iron clothes!! My poor husband has to do his own!! (I guess he can do that since I am outside mowing the lawn!!)

So...I bet you would like for me to stop with my rambling facts about myself and get to this weeks challenge! I would like you to use an arrow on your card, layout or project!! That's it... just one arrow will do it!! I decided to focus on the direction piece of this challenge and did this LO of my family on the Road to Hana!!

I have 4 arrows on this one.... one in the title, one pointing down, one circling the picture and a small black one made from brads!!

Take a look at what the rest of the Design Team did for you!!

DIANA

Well her little Natalie got a hold of some "RED" glimmer mist and opened it and pour a bit on her pp. She decided to just let it go. She says it looks messy just like her packing is looking just about now. Diana, we think it adds the perfect amount of "charm" to your layout!

DEBBIE
Debbie loved working with this challenge and using these colorful papers by Lily Bee Design. Can you spot the arrows? One is pointing right at her son and the other is part of the timeless clock!

Joni used an arrow as a decorative embellishment, but it does subtly point out the airplane window. Also, doesn't that airplane below the arrow also sort of give the "feel" of an arrow? Those 2 arrow elements combined draw your eye to that part of the layout & the portion of the phtoto of her son looking out the airplane window.

SHARON

In life you can make all kinds of wishes
and sometimes life decides those wishes
should go in another direction.

Just a quick note about the JULY prize...we know we said we'd announce the winner on Thursday...but we've got some vacations going on. So, we promise we'll get to it soon...we're shooting for Saturday....so check back often!!
