Love in Bloom with Katie!

Thursday, March 20, 2014

Hi everyone! Katie here to share a layout today I did using some of the new fabulous 'Fresh Cut' collection by Basic Grey. I have been dreaming of spring colors, warmer days, and this collection has it all! I think we can all agree that spring can't get here soon enough in the US. Its been a cold one!!

Here are a few close ups:

I started my layout without a picture in mind this time....I picked 2 of the geometric patterns with shades of green and anchored my layout at the bottom with some flowers- all fussy cut from one of the other papers. For dimension, I pop dotted some of them over top of the others. I had the perfect hot pink ric-rac the add to the bottom with staples for some more texture.

As I have been doing on alot of my projects lately, I used some more of the Studio Calico wood veneers, These were colored with a regular colorbox inkpad this time, an older one that I re-wetted and the wood seemed to soak the color right up.

That is all for today! I hope you enjoyed my share and are able to get your hands on some of this wonderful collection before it sells out!! I like the mix ofd geometric and floral patterns, it makes it very versatile for any occasion like most BG papers are, that's w:hy they are my fav!! Have a great weekend and I hope you get some time to get crafty :)

Lookin' Suave!!

Monday, March 17, 2014

Hello, Joni Parker here today wishing you a Happy St. Patrick's Day if you celebrate that and a Happy Monday if you don't.

Today I wanted to share a few layouts that I created using the Authentique Suave collection that we have in the Frosted Designs store.

I really loved the woodgrain on this paper and knew I had the perfect photo to match!!  The paper has a cute little mustached man in the corner that I didn't want to use, so I covered it up with a banner and a wood tag that I inked/distressed.   I added some of the stickers from the collection, along with some Sugar Dots and UmWow Chipboard as accents.

On this one, I was inspired by the little card that says "This is what Handsome Looks Like"!!  I easily found a handsome photo of my son to use for this one!!  Then I cut other pieces of patterned paper to approximately the same size as the title card and rounded the corners and layered them to the right of the photo.  A few sticker accents and a white pen border to finish up a cute and simple layout.

For this one, I liked the "Rock and Roll" sticker and the "Like Father, Like Son" sticker, so I found this photo of my husband and son in California posing for me at the Pacific Ocean.  I realized after I had the photo and papers attached that it needed something for the background....so, I decided on the brick look using a mask.  So my trick for this after I've attached the photo is to use that "extra 4x6" photo that comes in your photo packs...you know the one that is advertising something (or I've used a photo out of my pack that I KNOW I'm not going to scrap).  Anyway, lay that over the "real" photo and you have a perfect cover-up so you don't accidently get ink on your photo.  For the bricks, I just used a stiff stippling brush and dabbed it on an ink pad and then dabbed it into the mask for a nice soft effect.  I also added Sugar Dots and UmWow Chipboard and a Maya Road clip to this layout for a few fun accents.

For this one, I started with my photos...2 pictures of my son sliding down a sand dune at the beach.  I kept the photos together vertically since one of the photos is kinda hard to tell what he's doing...the other photo helps to understand what's happening without having to work to figure it out (or at least that was my goal..lol!).  I added mists to the background and found a couple of fun stickers that worked with my theme.

A fun thing to note about this collection is that I never used Alphas from my stash for any of these layouts.  The set comes with 3 different alphas and I found that they all worked perfectly for my layouts.   Also, I only  pulled cardstock from my stash to mat one photo...these patterns were so useable and perfect and the solid colors were so perfect I didn't need to add any solid cardstock.  I did pull embellishments from my stash though, as I mentioned in each layout description.  I wanted to mention that though since Alphas, Cardstock and Embellishments are typically things I add from my stash, and realized that I really didn't need to do that this time since the papers the alphas are so perfect!!!

"Love Is…" Mini-Series Part 2!

Monday, February 24, 2014

Hello all!!!  WOW... Has it been a busy month!!! I've been making all kinds of wonderful Valentine's projects and I just can't stop!!!  I'm in love with all the pretty papers and embellies :-)

So earlier this month, I shared with you a card for Channa's "Love Is" Challenge which featured a beautiful , soft color scheme.  Here's a reminder of the colors in case you forgot!!!

I was so in love with these colors and overall challenge, that I actually made several coordinating projects for a Valentine's gift (Yes, it's girly... But my husband is use to it!!! Hahaha!!)
Here's a peek at the card I posted:

And my "hidden" pocket with a tag that quotes:
"Love is that condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own"
- Robert Heinlein

The Pink Paislee "Colorwash" 6x6 paper pad was perfect for this challenge!!! I had so much fun with it that after completing the first project, I just wanted to keep going!!!  So that's exactly what I did :-)

I've seen a few posts in the past about "altered Altoid can" and found them interesting.  I wanted to give it a shot...  So I did!!!
Here's a look at the finished project:

I love this hexagon paper in the pad... it's very versatile!!! And the Kaisercraft blooms really make it beautiful!!!  I sprayed the blooms with LSG mists in Cotton Candy Pink and Tibetan Poppy Teal,  using Dylusions White Linen spray as a "base coat" for the teal to make a more muted color.  I really like how the "always" sentiment came out! I actually stamped it with a light color, then went over it with my black Sakura Gelly Roll pen which gives it a glossed-over look!

I decided to create a mini photo-book to go inside the can as well.  I simply cut a paper down to 3.5x10 inches and scored at every two inches.  Then I just matted other papers and photos, dressing it up much like a page or card!

I used the wooden heart and word "love" from the Polka Dot Party Word Veneers by American Crafts, and coated them with Blazing Sun, Cotton Candy Pink and Sunset Pink Lindy's Stamp Gand Sprays. Then I cut up the word to spread it across the book.  I also added Studio Calico "tiny stars" which were treated the same way, only I added small splatters of Dylusions white linen spray on them :-)

You can see the two-tone color and shine here... it's fabulous!!!

For the back side of the book I wanted pictures of my family.  So after much digging to find the "perfect" size, I was able to find some pics that looked great with these colors!  I added some MME "tiny word stickers" and DIY Thickers topped with "Rock Candy" Distress Glitter as well!!!

I had to keep the inside pretty simple, and flat... definitely flat!!!  My little book was quite thick after embellishing and I didn't want it to be squished!!! Hahahaha!!!  So I added a tiny banner and the definition of "love" (created in powerpoint and misted with LSG sprays!) to finish it off!

Stay tuned for "Part 3" of my "mini-series" coming soon!!!!

Well gang...  Thanks so much for stopping in and have a LUCKY day :-)

"Love-ing" the January Kit with Brandi!

Monday, February 17, 2014

Hey there my fellow crafters!!!  It's Brandi and I'm back again with all kinds of January kit goodness!!! I've had soooo much fun playing with this one... Seriously!!!  The papers, embellies, and die-cuts are just so "lovable"!!!  I was able to create several projects with just one kit and am here to share a few of them with you today :-)

"Love is in the Air"
First on the list is a layout I created using a picture of me and my hubby at a wedding a few years back. Here's a look at the completed page:

Yes, I did the unthinkable and cut up that beautiful Amy Tangerine die-cut page!!!  I really only wanted the letters here and will use the "scrap" as a mask on a future project!!!

As I said before, one of my FAV things to do is outline things with Sharpie markers.  Well, there is no lack of that on this one!!!  I used a bronze metallic sharpie and outlined several pieces, including the "Love" letters, and used distress ink on the rest.  I also added pop-dots under the "O" in love to create a little dimension:

For the rest of the title, I used the sticker letters by Teresa Collins and DIY Thickers.  These are wonderful because you can do so many different things!!!  I used a pink gelato to add some soft color, then sprinkled the Tim Holtz "Rock Candy" Distress Glitter for some glitz!!

I also used a small heart punch and scraps I had lying around from the kit to create the "flying" hearts at the top of the page.  I used the sharpie to outline them and scored them down the middle.  Here's a closer look:

I finished the page with some added journaling.  I do most of my journaling behind the scenes (usually on a journal card on the back of the page), but decided to make a journal pocket for this layout.  I used one of the journaling cards included in the die-cuts and added a tab to the top.  After creating the pocket, the card slides nicely in and all you see is the tab :-)

"You Are My Happy"
The next layout I created has turned out to be one of my favorite layouts!!!  I knew I wanted to create something soft, elegant, and pretty.  Nothing says "pretty" like a whole lot of pink!!!  Here's the page:

This one was an awesome page to make with all sorts of FD Store goodies!!!  I started by using a pink gelato and a mini-mister to create a soft edge around the whole page.  I put my page through my Cricut Expression 2 to cut out some hearts at the bottom, outlining them also with the gelato.

I took some doilies from my stash and laid them down to create a banner at the top.  I added my photos to a couple of Pink Paislee "Colorwash" tags, using the pink gelato and mister to add color.  I also took the Jillibean "Flash Cards" from the January kit and made them into tags.  I matted all the tags with Pink Paislee "Colorwash" pattern papers and brushed the pink gelato around the edges.  I finished my banner with some eyelets and the sheer ribbon from the January kit.

I took out the heart stencil from the January "Get Messy" kit and some Golden Molding Paste to make the heart in the center.  I cut up tiny pieces of the gelato to tint the molding paste, and added the Tim Holtz "Rock Candy" distress glitter for additional texture and shine!!!

Using the same technique, only with gesso this time, I used my fingers to spread some all over the Prima "Paquita" flower in the bottom corner and the chipboard word "Happy" in my title.

I finished the page with Maya Road Resin Flowers... These are soooo beautiful!!! You can literally let them fall to your page (or project) and glue them where they land!!!

P.S.  I was very lucky to submit this to the LGS "Sketch Inspired" magazine and it made cover!!!!  YAY :-)

"With Love"
Okay... This is my last project of the day... I swear!!!!  I wanted to make a card with this kit as well to show how versatile it can be!!!  I used Card Sketch #19 over at Sketch N Scrap as a starting point.
Here's the card:

Aren't these papers just beautiful?!?  I LOVE them!!!
This card was pretty easy to make as I pulled almost everything from the January kit.  I used distress ink around the edges of the papers and paper doily.  I added the DIY Thickers (the number 14) to the center and used more of the "Tim Holtz "Rock Candy" distress glitter to the top.  I also added liquid pearls around the center of the doily for added bling :-)

I stamped my sentiment on kraft paper and cut it out in banner shape.  I used a white Sakura Gelly Roll pen to create the "faux" stitched look!!!

I finished the card with chevron chipboard by UmWow Studios and flowers from the kit!!!

Whew....  Sorry to keep you so long!!!  I hope you enjoyed my projects!!!
Have a LUCKY day :-)
