Friday Challenge - Get Messy x2!

Friday, February 13, 2015

Happy Friday everyone! Are you ready for Valentine's Day tomorrow? Some may be, some may not. Some may think love is flowers and roses and others find it messy! So why not have a little fun with the messy this week?!

Our challenge for you…. to include two "messy" items on your card, layout or off the page project! Messy items might include: paint, inks, mists, gesso, molding paste… you get the idea!

Look at what our design team created to inspire you….

Barb
Forever Yours Kit

Julie
I made an 8x10 canvas -- I started by painting the canvas pink, then while the paint was wet, I used a red mist and sprayed it on the wet paint -- while both the paint and mist were still wet, I took a vintage dress pattern and used my hands to cause a mixed texture on the canvas -- once my 'texture' was created, I removed the dress pattern and let the canvas dry.

I used "6" messy things!
String dipped in Paint/Gesso mix and then "dragged" around the background (I actually let my son do that!)
Spray Ink (Dylusions from the store) for some extra blue dots
Gelatos (from the store) - yellow around the stitched tag
Watercolor Pencil - Blue Cloud
Distress Ink - edges of tag

Some Elements from the Frosted Designs "Rustic Beauty" Kit

Capture the Moment -  I started with a lovely pale blue and white polka dotted paper.  Next, I laid a polka dotted stencil on the paper and rubbed some metallic blue berry gelato on then continue by paint-able texture paste.  This gives you a wonderful multicolor look.  I took a stamp and dabbed orange ink onto it.  They look like large paint splashes.  Finally I misted some light blue paint followed by painting many layers and splashing.  Now I used another stamp with black ink for a little drama.  The rings received a coat of guava dimensional crystal.  The gears and photo frame were sprayed black.  The final step was adding beads in a couple of the rings.

Friday Challenge - Direction!

Friday, January 30, 2015

Hello, it's Joni Parker, in Sunny Warm Phoenix Arizona (sorry to rub it in for those of you in the cold, but this is the best time of year for us!!).

For this week's challenge, we are going to have you answer this question....What Direction?

Your project needs to have something indicating direction.  You can go literal and use arrows or get wordy and use directional words:  East, West, Up, Down, Over, Under, Left, Right....you get the idea.  You can even get a little creative and use a compass or weather vane....  You can interpret this any way you want, but be sure to explain it in your blog post if it's not really obvious!

For my layout, I used the word Under...and it doesn't even have anything to do with an actual direction!!!
When we visited the Treasure Island Casino in Las Vegas to see the "Pirate Show" we were surprised to find it "Under Construction".....this photo was my 10 year old son's reaction to what we found!
