Believe with Tamiko!

Thursday, July 24, 2014

Hey hey GOOD PEOPLE!!  It's Tamiko!!

To BELIEVE

Is to have .. a faith.. almost a knowledge, with or without any real proof.. that something is true.  I believe in fairies.  (smile)  I believe in their magical essence.  I think they are around us all the time, specifically, when I create.  When I play, I think fairies sit with me and push me to practice, practice, practice!  Who cares if you use the minimal supplies, as long as you use them?  Nothing beats a failure but a try, can we agree?

Any who.. let's get to what I want to show you today!!  It's from page twenty-five of your book, if you are following along with us!  This page was a little bit more difficult to do.. Of course my picture does not look like the page, because I drew it.  I am not the artist of the book.  ::giggles::   I took a lot of the same characteristics and the steps and from the page.

Oh and  I totally enjoyed using the FUDE BALL pen by Ranger that comes in the kit.  Although thicker that many roller ball pens, not nearly as fragile as I thought it might be!  It practically glided over the Dylusion inks and then layers of acrylic paints I used from the Deco Art Mixed Media Fluid line.  Here's my page..  and a few additional close ups...

The word *Believe* I did with a paint pen then I outlined with my Fude Ball pen, something I picked up reading the The Art of Whimsical Lettering, by Joanne Sharpe.  You can find that at Frosted Designs!  This allowed me to branch out and believing not only in my own ability to learn to draw fairies, but also my own handwriting. (smile)  Also added some accent white gel pen markings with my favorite gel pen, the Unibal Signo.  Note:  This has to be used on a completely dry page or you could possibly ruin your pen.  If you accidentally use it on a damp page, wipe off the pen nib immediately!

Again.. if you have the kit/book.. I would love to see what you are doing with the fairy pages!  If you don't want to share publicly.. Feel free to private message me a sneaky peek on Facebook!

Oh, and thank you if you have purchased the kit or plan to soon!!  Sandee Setliff and I (Tamiko McCurry) are both available to you for any questions you may have about the kit. (smile)

Thank you for stopping by!!

Moonlit Dreams - Pixie Dust is a MUST!

Tuesday, July 15, 2014

Hi EVERYONE, my name is Tamiko!!  So excited to post here today!!  Before I begin my tutorial.. and I use that loosely.. ::giggles:: Let me tell you a little bit about myself.  (smiles)  I like to play with art supplies! I love to watch youtube videos, streams and anything and everything I can find on the net, that's arts and craft related!  That being said, this is my first post, as a member of the Frosted Designs design team.. ::insert big gulp here:: lol!!  Ok.. Shall we begin?

It starts with this..
The first, strictly mixed media kit that you can find here and FROSTED DESIGNS.
I am always looking for ways to practice improving my drawing.  I am by no means an expert in the field, but I do my best.  I read once, don't ask me where (HA!), that it takes thousands of hours of practice, before you will honestly be able to do the images you have in your head, exactly the way you want them on paper.  All it takes is practice and dedication.. (smile) Don't be afraid.. The ONLY one who needs to like your work.. is YOU.. Having a just ONE/GROUP of family/friends who cheer you on, even when you make a incomplete stick figure helps too!! (ok enough!)  Let's begin..
Nice SUNNY day!  :)  Along with the contents of the mixed media kit, I gathered some of my supplies and went outside.. I began first by taking my Ranger Dylusions Creative Journal, three of my Dylusions Sprays, a Sakura Sensei Pen (03) and my mechanical pencil and eraser, a little DecoArt Gesso and a makeup sponge..

I began by spray my journal pages with my Dylusions Sprays.
I let the run together and soak the page.  Then I blotted lightly puddles with a baby wipe.

There were some splashes I didn't care for on the page, so what did I do?
I put gesso on it! (chuckles)  I rubbed a little from my fingertip on the page.. looks like clouds if you ask me! HA!!  We'll see how that works later!  Then I decided to see how my moonlight gel pens looked against the inks!!  Oh these ANYONE will love!  Key to using them?  Come close to the screen, because  I have to whisper... ::whispering:::  light hand keeps the flow.. dry surface is a must.. when in doubt, wipe the debris off the tip.. and try it again! (smiles)

Then I took my stencil and lightly pounced a little gesso through it, with the makeup applicator.  Guess what?  The stencil says STONES.. They look like perfectly imperfect mushroom caps to me!

Now that we have a little background started.. Lets get a little FAIRY MAGIC going!! ::sprinkling glitter over my shoulder for good luck::

Every body image begins with basic shapes.. YOU decide which ones are the easiest, then knock those out! then you can take your time and focus on areas you need the most help with.  Remember.. just practice.. keep practicing...  Here, the circles represent jointed areas on the upper body..   My diagram won't look like the book.. Well, because I didn't write the book (smile).    Draw loosely, make mistakes.. it erases!!

Picture explains it .. (haha)  I wanted YOU and ME to know, I wanted
BIGGER wings on my big body fairy!  I added  a kinda donut shape to the waist and some legs.  My next image will give you a slightly better picture of the lower half.

I started adding details to my image, but I did it
with my Sakura Sensei 03 (thin lines but not too fine)
I also retraced over my image.  I took my time.  These will be my final lines on my
image and I would like then as neat as my hand will allow.  I'm not looking for
perfect.  I am looking for recognizable.. (smile)
This is my semi-complete image with my Sakura write-over.  I apologize for not knowing certain *terminology*, but I hope you are following along with me well :)  Make sure you let the ink dry!  (just a few seconds)

Everyone who wants to draw.. needs good eraser.. I mean a SEPARATE eraser from your pencil.  They tend to work well and take up little to no space!  There is a great one that came with my Sakura Sensei pens and/pencil set!  I love it!  Ok.. this is where you ERASE ALL the PENCIL lines!!  OMGosh, why didn't I do this when I was a kid?  do you know how many times I drew.. with a pen.. because I was suppose to, when I made comics?  How many times I would have drawn MORE had I thought.. or someone shared.. do it it pencil.. then do a write over and erase?

one more full image.. anyone notice.. I didn't do the hands? (laughs out loudly.. even as I type this)
I hate hands.. It's my least favorite part.. plus I am not sure exactly how I want the hands.. Didn't want it to deter me from the idea I had come with for my post.. So I am going to keep going.. (smiles)

I won't bore you with bore you with pictures of me fussy cutting and coloring my fairy, which I should have scanned ::big whoops::  would have been cool to use it later!!  I painted with a bunch of the colors I used in the background, I dipped my brush in some DecoArt Multi-Surface Satin Acrylics in  Cotton ball (white) and added to various Dylusions ink sprays for color (I wanted an opaque color, that didn't move, when I added my stickles/glitter).  Then I also used my DecoArt Acrylics in lipstick, flamingo pink, chocolate, pumpkin.. to add colors to my fairy and my mushrooms.  I used Helmar 450 to secure my image.
Anywayyy.. Here is my finished page.. :)

ALL you NEED is FAiTH, TRUST and little bit of PIXiE DUST!!  Don't I know that to be true!!

What kind of Fairy wiuld she be if she didn't have
any glitter??  so I used some Stickles to add glitter to
my fairy's wings, tutu, wand and eyeshadow.

Then I took my white china pencil and made some highlights on my lettering and  mushrooms

I added my hands!!I painted them in.. Then took my stabilo
pencil in brown and added details her skin tone.. (works for me!!)  Then I also took the
flourishes stamp from the kit and I stamped all over the background with archival ink.  I also took the moonlight gel pens and added some centers to many of the flowers.

Just another angle of more flourishes that got a little
pixie dust loving from my fairy!

Hope you enjoyed my Tutorial and Thank YOU for stopping by and looking!!
Have a WONDERFUL rest of the WEEK!!

Capture the Moment Altered Clock with Brandi!

Sunday, June 22, 2014

Hey there fellow crafters!!!  It's Brandi on the blog today sharing an altered clock I made recently for my hubby's birthday!!!  I used June' gorgeous "Capture the Moment" kit and products from previous month's kits as well!!!

Here's a look at the finished piece:

I've wanted to do one of these for quite some time.  The colors and patterns in this kit made it perfect to finally get it done!
I first printed out a clock on one of the Prima papers from the kit and adhered it to the backing of the clock.   I grabbed various embellishments from the kit and my stash and added them around the piece.  This picture was taken on my husband's 28th birthday so the little number piece was perfect!!!

I grabbed some trim and buttons, as well as some brads and added them for detail.  I used the Perfect Pearls mist in this month's kit to add color to the chipboard heart from last month's kit, then used the paint pen from last month's kit to add dimensional dots!

I finished the inside with one more brad that says "Us" and a flower tucked behind the picture!

Here's a look at the complete inside piece:

Now for the hard part....  Getting the clock to look old...  very old!!!!  I wanted an antiqued look and it took me some work!  I first coated the entire clock (which was a bright silver!!!) gesso.  Once dried, I started adding various mists (Lindy's and Dylsuions in store) and using my finger to spread them around.  I added a top coat of Luminarte Silks in Copper Brown for more color and some shine!

I then wrapped some film strip ribbon around the whole clock!

I embossed and misted some grungeboard from my stash, then added it to the piece with a button and some hemp cord.

I distressed the flowers with ink then added them with some brads and flair around the outer edge.

I finished the clock with a key and metal sentiment from my stash and put it all together!

I've said it a hundred times that Frosted Designs kits are soooo versatile! This is just one of many things I've created using only ONE kit!!!

Well gang...  Thanks so much for stopping in and have a LUCKY day :-)

Celebrating Our Graduate!

Friday, May 2, 2014

Happy Friday everyone! I had a few quite hours where I had the house completely to myself so I took advantage of that and started to play with some of the messy products sitting on my desk! I added in some of the items from Frosted Designs Kits and this is what I created!

Last May my daughter graduated from Evangel University and we couldn't be more proud! Even though the weather wasn't very Spring-like that day, I decided to make a Spring-Like layout!  :)

I had a lot of fun getting a little messy on this one! I started by spraying a little Dylusions Ink (Lemon Zest) on the background paper (which was in the Love is in the Air  kit). I then used my Koi Water Brush along with the Watercolor Crayons to add a little orange to the background. I love the water color look! Finally, I used the stencil (from the November Mixed Media Kit) and some Gelatos to create the blue circles!

The patterned papers I layered behind the photo were from the Shades of Spring Kit. I outlined the edges of the patterned paper and scalloped frame on the photo with the Black Gelly Roll Pen! It is perfect for this! I LOVE the black chevron Trendy Tape from Queen & Co so I added that in a few places! Do you like the Studio Calico polaroid die cut? It is from the Sea Breeze Kit! Don't you love it when you have bits and pieces left from kits that you can use like this?!  :)

Finally I added a few extras down in the corner of the layout! I can't get enough of the Maya Road Vintage Metal Trinkets!

Tomorrow is National Scrapbooking Day! I hope you get some time to play and create! If you need supplies, you might want to check out the Sale going on in the Frosted Designs Store!
