Friday's Challenge Punctuation or Keyboard Symbol

Friday, February 28, 2014

This time we have another fun challenge for you hosted by Joni Parker...
it's a Punctuation or Keyboard Symbol challenge ..

Use a punctuation mark on your card/layout. Can be in the title/sentiment or as an embellishment.

PERIOD, COMMA and APOSTROPHE do NOT count (sorry, too easy).
Here are some ideas: Brackets {} or [] , Parenthesis (), Question Mark ?, Hashtag #, Quotation Marks"", Ampersand &, Percent %, Dollar Sign $ etc....

I used Studio Calico Printshop for my layout...I was inspired by the stickers Smile and etc...
then I had my main title Photogenic and etc... (using AMPERSAND as my symbol)

The large script transparent etc (lower right) was not showing up very well on my layout, so I turned it over and added blue Stickles to the back-side...took a day to dry and I love how it pops color with the contrast of the orange ampersand!!

"Love Is…" Mini-Series Part 3!

Hello again my crafty friends!!!  I hope you've had a wonderful month of "love" filled with tons of inspiration from our very talented Design Team here at Frosted Designs!!!! I cannot express how excited I am to be part of such a wonderful (and AMAZING!) team!!!

As promised, I am here today to share the last part of my "Love is..." project!!! If you missed one or some of the previous posts, don't worry!!!  I'll be sure to share it all with you today :-)

Earlier in the month, Channa hosted an amazing challenge called "Love is...".  The challenge was was to create something showing what love means to you, and use the following color combo:

Isn't it gorgeous?!?  Well I loved the challenge so much that I created several projects to showcase the colors, and what love means to me :-)

Here's a look back at the two previous projects:
First a card...

And my "hidden" pocket with a tag that quotes:
"Love is that condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own"
Robert Heinlein

Then an altered Altoid can with mini photo book:

And my last project?!?  Well I had to have something to put all this wonderfull-ness in... right?!?
So I created an altered box using the same papers and embellies from before.
Here's a look:

I had so much fun playing with these papers and colors!!!  I used a box about 6x6 in size so the papers were perfect!!!
I started by coating my box with a thin layer of gesso, mixed with Lindy's Stamp Gand magicals in Cotton Candy Pink.  These pigment powder paints are fabulous for adding color to your medium, or even water!! After using mod-podge (matte) to layer on the paper, I got to work embellishing!
I started by using the heart stencil in the January kit and molding paste mixed with the same Magicals and Rock Candy distress glitter to create the design around the box.  I used some washi tape to cover half of the heart, and just used the other half, flipping it every other time.  I did this around the top of the lid and the bottom of the box as well.
Here's a close-up of the molding paste with the color and glitter:

After the design dried, I added various flowers from Kaisercraft, Prima, and others from my stash to the top of the box.  I misted some with LSG and Dylusions sprays to get my desired colors.
I also made my own bling using liquid pearls, acetate, and a template and tucked it beneath one of the flower clusters.

I used other trim coated with LSG Cotton Candy Pink to wrap around the entire box lid.

I finished it with the sheer pink ribbon from the January kit and created a bow.  I adhered it to the front of the box, adding a small rhinestone flower to the center.

I hope you have enjoyed my little "mini-series"!!!!

Thanks so much for stopping in and have a LUCKY day :-)

Cherish Good Times - February Shades of Spring Kit With Cathi

This week I have done another ballet themed layout. I just had to!! I hadn't used the May Arts Tutu Tulle trim in the kit yet!! I've used it here to make....a tutu, lol, and the trim and ribbon for my tag!

For this layout I used lots of goodies from the kit, making my own tag as an embellishment and main part of my layout! I was able to use the Picked Raspberry and Squeezed Lemonade from the kit long with the Juniper Adirondack paint dabber and the yummy Dot Fade stencil from Tim Holtz.  My tutorial this month will show you how to create a great layered background on your tag using an emboss distress technique along with some water spritzing and stencil and molding paste work.

To start with, take some white card, Versamark, and your Kaisercraft Sheet Music background stamp, which you can find here in the Frosted Designs store.

Ink the stamp up with Versamark and then emboss it using the gorgeous Orbit Olive Gold Embossing Powder from Lindy's Stamp Gang.

Using the Picked Raspberry Distress Ink and Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink, add the colors using your applicator foam. I mixed the two colors together as well to get a lovely orange shade that toned in well with the Basic Grey Fresh Cut papers in the kit. Give a little wipe over the embossed areas to clean away the distress ink and make the stamped image stand out even more.

Add some drops of water for a very cool effect on the distress inks!!! The water drops effectively bleach out the colors of the distress ink and really add texture to the background.

For a finishing touch to the tag I added some molding paste using the Tim Holtz Dot Fade stencil included in the kit. I thin added the Tutu Tulle Trim to the bottom and as an accent on the top of the tag. The tag is now ready to add to the layout.

I used several different sheets of the gorgeous Basic Grey Fresh Cut paper, cutting out a doily shape with my Mini-8 punch for the layer behind the tag and adding some fussy cut flowers from another sheet. I added some of the raw wooden pieces here, as they didn't need any embellishment and added another color and texture to the design.  Here you can see where I fussy cut my daughter Aine in a ballet pose and added a 3D tutu to her using the gorgeous May Arts Tutu Tulle.

I added some stickers from the Fresh Cut sticker sheet included in the kit and added some gorgeous Kaisercraft blooms to the cluster and the some Petaloo pink hydrangea blossoms from the January kit!!

I also used the Tim Holtz dot fade stencil and molding paste to add gorgeous texture to the background page. I love how the tag blends the colors from the other papers and creates a backdrop for my photo! I hope you like it!

Thank you so much for stopping by!!
