Tips & Tricks Thursday!

Thursday, May 30, 2013

Hi! It's Cathi here to share a tip that I really appreciated learning as a new scrapper!! It helps you stretch your papers further!!

Cut a big hole in your background paper! Yup that is right, cut the middle of your background paper right out... You can layer a second sheet that is cut down to a smaller size, I did my second layer as a 10 inch square. Glue the edges of the second layer and place it down on the background paper.

That square that you cut out...you can use either side to continue building the layers. I used a small square of that same background paper here.

Finally, I took one of the off-cuts from the second paper when I trimmed it to 10 inches and added a final layer...4 layers from two sheets of paper...Instead of getting one layer from your 12x12, cutting out the center of your background page and trimming down your second layer gives paper for 4 layers and more!!

Tutorial Tuesday with Felicity!

Tuesday, May 28, 2013

Hi there :) Felicity here today to share with you a little step x step on how I created a mixed media tag.

Step 1:  First I cut out  a  tag shape using some canvas as my background. I then applied some Gesso and then I used a Prima marketing stencil wit some texture paste.  I then used the sewing machine to machine stitch a border.

Step 2: Once all that was dried, I then used some twinkling H2O's to create a watercolour affect background.

Step 3: Then using a few scraps of paper I started layering some papers and destressing the edges. I also popped in random pieces of distressed musclin wrap, to add some more texture.

Step 4: I then started working on my cluster of flowers. I just choose out different flowers in different colours and sizes and layed them too.

Step 5: then to finish the tag off I add a ribbon bow, some more muslin and cute little Prima martketing trinket zipper.

I hope I have inspired you today to get out the paints and sprays and have some happy messy fun!

Tutorial Tuesday by Sandee!

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

Hi everyone, have you ever sewn onto your cards or lay outs?

It's a great way to add texture without adding any heaviness or bulk. One of my favorite things to sew are french knots which is a decorative stitch made by winding the thread one or more times around the needle and drawing the needle back through the material at the point where it came out.

Now if you have any problems understanding the step out instructions, please feel free to visit my blog : In the hills of North Carolina, where I created a video tutorial, but beware, it's my first video I ever made....need I say anything else? lol

Here is my finished card:

Hope you have a great week,
loving all the Black and White + 1 entries and you have until May 23rd to enter.
Sandee

Tutorial Tuesday with Elizabeth!

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

Hi everyone! This is Elizabeth from 217 Creations.  this week is my turn to share a tutorial with our fabulous readers here at Frosted Designs!

Today I am going to show you how to make a Washi Tape Banner for cards, layouts, and altered items.
First Cut your self a length of twine or string.  You could also use really thin ribbon. Choose your Washi Tape colors.
Make a pattern of Washi Tape strips, folding the torn strips in half and wrapping around the twine.

Take a sharp pair of scissors and trim each strip into a pennant shape. I start at the outside corner and work inward on each side.
Create a card base. Mine is made with Teresa Collins paper "Memories".
Next apply a small pop dot on the back of each pennant.  I like pop dots because they are somewhat forgiving for placement.
Now place your a banner across your card.

I love this color combination! The pop dots really allow the banner to stand out.

Thank you as always for taking the time to leave a comment and for subscribing to us here at Frosted Designs and on my personal blog at 217 Creations
