Designer Spotlight Featuring Anita!

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

I am thrilled to introduce today's Designer in the Spotlight... Anita! She is an amazing scrapbooker and card maker and her off the page projects are always so stunning and full of details! We are so happy to have her on our team here at Frosted Designs!

5 Fun Facts about Anita...

  • I have a Master's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering but I have never worked in that field. I stayed home with my girls instead.
  • I am an avid gardener, collect heirloom roses and irises, and have been known to stop on the side of the road to dig up plants. Nothing is more soothing to me than to go into the yard and do a little digging.
  • I am a baker and I designed and decorated wedding cakes for almost 20 years. Every year at Christmas time I bake hundreds (sometimes almost a thousand) of cookies and give away to my family and friends. It is a huge days long production here in the house.
  • I have played the piano pretty much all my life, but never learned to read music! I play by ear. Learning to read music and play the "real way" are on my bucket list.
  • I love to travel. One of my favorite trips was to Guatemala, I hiked to the top of an active volcano and got to stand in the clouds. It was pretty amazing. On my list of places to see - Easter Island for the migration of the Red Crabs, The Galapagos Islands, and I want to go island hopping through the Greek Isles with just a back pack and no itinerary.

More About Anita....
I am married to a great guy for almost 25 years now, we have two beautiful daughters, two dogs and three furry cats. I am a SAHM who went back to work for a little while when my daughter was in college, but I decided it wasn't for me and came back home to scrapbook and work on my house and yard. These days I keep busy doing design work for several manufacturers, the local store and a couple of challenge blogs. I have some serious issues with paper, buttons, ribbon, brads,,,,, so this art is perfect for me!

Show Me Sunday - A Tutorial By Teresa

Sunday, January 27, 2013

Greetings, Teresa Jaye playing with you today
I have a project to share with you on which I've demonstrated creating layers.
I started with a plain fiberboard frame purchased at a big box store. Of course, I forgot to take a picture of it before I put on the first layer (which is patterned paper), but here is what you'll need:
The patterned paper (by Making Memories) is applied with Mod Podge under and over the paper. Use a sanding tool to clean up the edges after the Mod Podge dries.
Next comes a layer of ink (Ranger Archival in Coffee) randomly applied through a stencil (Mini Chicken Wire Reversed stencil by Crafters Workshop) with a finger dauber.

And then a layer of vintage tissue paper torn in bits and applied with Mod Podge under and over:
How pretty all the layers look, yet the project is still completely flat! The trick is in the tissue paper as it is quite transparent!
Now I added some dimension by embellishing with burlap, netting, felt, and a vintage doily (there is a paper flower and canister by Making Memories in the picture but I wound up not using it)
And here's the finished project

With a picture of my friends puppy in it - the perfect birthday present for her!
Thanks for joining me!
I hope you are inspired to try some layering on your next project!

Designer Spotlight Featuring Sassy!

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

Today, I am excited to share with you a designer who lives up to her name... Sassy! She is an amazingly talented lady and every project she makes is stunning! We love Sassy so much that we recently asked her to return to our Design Team here at Frosted Designs!

5 Fun Facts about Sassy...

Chicken fat grosses me out.  Every bit of it needs to be cut off before cooking and I will not order chicken out or eat it at anyone's house.

Mayonaisse or Miracle Whip?  Definitely Miracle Whip!
I am a reality tv junkie.
My favorite vacation spot besides home is the North Shore.
I do not like cartoons or animated movies.

More About Sassy....

My life consists of my family.  Some people may find this boring but I live to spend time with my daughter Sarah, son Ryan, and husband Jason.  For me a night at home cuddled up or watching a favorite show with Jason or having a giggle fest with Sarah over some silly little thing truly makes me happy.  You've heard the line "You complete me?" Well as corny as it sounds my husband and I truly do complete each other.  We frequently say that we are each others balance.  In some ways we couldn't be more different and yet it's those differences that allow us to balance one another out.  We finish sentences for each other and love eachother more than any two people I know.

Show Me Sunday - A Tutorial by Channa!

Sunday, January 20, 2013

Good Morning All,

Today is Sunday and that means it is time for a Tutorial.
I am going to show you how to make your own swirls embellishments from cardboard.
We all have toilet rolls at home that can be recycled. But you can use a kitchen roll, packaging
from a cereal box, the cardboard rolls from all that wrapping paper that
you used to wrap all your Christmas presents just check your recycling bin.

So this is what you need:

1 toilet roll
1 sheet of  thin cardboard or any packaging you can find in your recycling bin.
Glue
Scissors
a toothpick
Paint or mists ( i used dylusion spray)

1. Cut the toilet roll length wise.

2. Cut small strips of about 1/2 cm.
I cut 7 strips for this specific tutorial but you can cut as many as you want it all
depends on how many you want to use on your craft project.

3. Fold all the strips double and start curling them with a toothpick.
I will leave the curling up to you, there are many options just use your imagination.

4.  Take your cardboard sheet or box and cut one long strip of 1/2 a cm.
This will be your base where you can stick all your small curled strips on,
so you can make a border or a circle. I used tacky glue because it dries quickly and it is solid.
See below how it is suppose to look

5. Now you can paint or spray your swirl border as you wish.

And this is my ending result:

I sprayed my border with yellow dylusion spray and glued the ends together and made a circle.
And used it as a layer on top of my picture.
The options are endless, so get your toilet rolls and get creative.

On this close up picture you have a better view of how my swirl turned out.
It gives an extra dimension to your layout and it looks so lovely.

I hope you liked my tutorial, it is so simple and inexpensive!

If you want to see more details of this layout pass by my blog:

Thank you for stopping by and enjoy your Sunday,

Channa
