Show Me Sunday - A Tutorial by Anita!

Sunday, September 30, 2012

Hi everyone,, hope you are having a fabulous weekend so far!
Today I have a quick and easy tutorial on how to use your
embossing folders to letterpress.
Letterpress refers to the art of embossing ink into paper. It has been used for
ever to make invitations and stationary. It gives a great look when you are cardmaking too.
*****
These photos are a little darker than normal, I wanted to really show the contrast
in the embossing, so I had one of the lights off!
*****
You can use any brand of embossing folders I am sure, but I have only
ever tried it with CuttleBug folders, because that is what I have.
The secret to letterpress is to use really heavy paper. I use watercolor paper. Plain old watercolor paper
than can be found in the arts department of any craft store. I use a coupon and buy the largest size
I can get, and then cut that to fit my needs. You will also need ink and if you want you can use some embossing powder to up the shine factor. I like slow drying ink, so I use Tsukineko.
Open up your folder and ink the side where you can feel the raised design. I find the best way is to lightly run the ink pad across the raised parts. If you put too much pressure you will get ink between the design parts and it will create a messy emboss. If you get a little out of the lines like I did here, use a baby wipe to clean it up.
Run it through your CB machine using the same plates you normally would to emboss - A-B- the folder- B.
And there you go! See how mine has a little bit of color between the design? I put a little extra ink in there because it was a Christmas tree and I wanted to fill it in. If this kind of thing bugs you, be sure to use very light pressure when inking.  You can see the tiniest bit of sparkle here, After I ran it through the CB machine, I sprinkled it with gold embossing powder and heat embossed it.
See how deep the ink is pushed into the paper? That is the beauty of watercolor paper!
This is a piece of watercolor paper that I ran through the machine with no ink. This is the BACK side - the design here is raised instead of being pushed in. You can have lots of fun with this side too!
Here I rubbed the design with Inka-Gold and then fussy cut it. I will add this to a card.
I hope you give this a try, it is lots of fun and you can do a lot with it.
Thanks for stopping by today!

Fabulous Friday Challenge - Embossing!

Friday, September 28, 2012

Welcome back to Frosted Designs! We are back with another challenge that is sure to help you use up the supplies you already own! This week we would like to see you use Embossing on your cards, layouts and off the page projects! The possibilities are endless with this one, as you will see with our Design Team examples! You can use dry embossing, heat embossing, create your own embossing, use pre embossed products... you get the idea! Take a peek....

The word background stamp is embossed.  The other 2 white designs are modeling paste which gives a raised texture similiar to embossing.

And a close up of the embossing:

Lydia is demonstrating that you can participate in this challenge without having a machine (or access to one) that embosses.  She used purchased embossed chipboard shapes.

On Lori's project, you will find dry embossing (with an embossing folder), heat embossing and creating an "embossed" effect with corregated cardboard.  For details on each of these techniques and more, you can visit her blog here.

Sarah G.
Sarah used ready-embossed cardstock for this layout and sanded over parts of it.

Channa used dry embossing, on the white background behind the picture and on
all the letter of the name Natalia.

Anita used letterpress plates to emboss the ink into watercolor papers.

This weeks sponsor is  My little shoebox
Design Team member Carol Theng is also on the My Little Shoebox Design Team! Here is how she used their products for our embossing challenge this week....

Carol embossed the doily background using My Little Shoebox doily stamp and white embossing powder. She then inked the background with distress inks.

Scrapbooking has always been part of my life. Back then I just didn't know the term "scrapbooking", I called it "beautifying" my photo albums.

I grew up in my parent's garment factory, and was surrounded by beautiful fabrics, laces, ribbons, and buttons. My mommy used to make tiny dresses for my dolls out of leftover fabrics, and I would dress them with ribbons, and buttons.

My daddy loved to take pictures of my brothers, sister, and me, so my mommy was dedicated to keeping family photo albums. We would put the albums together with whatever material we could find in the factory.

Fast forward to 2001. When my loving husband, Cesar and I got married, I had designed our wedding invitations. Then I went to work designing our wedding albums. I arranged the cards, papers and embellishments to go with our photographs and wedding theme, and ended up incorporating a lot of fabric patterns and accessories in my design.

My wedding album was a big hit! When everybody started asking me who my designer was, I knew I had done something right. With encouragement from Cesar and my family I started "My Little Shoebox" in the spring of 2005.

My goal is to encourage people to take their precious photographs out of their "little shoeboxes" and turn their personal memories into creations that will endure for generations. The idea behind "My Little Shoebox" is to make scrapbooking simple, quick, uniquely personalized, and most importantly, beautiful.

Thank you for letting me share my vision with you. I sincerely hope you like it.

This weeks prize is this very cute kit, that one winner is going to do some amazing things with. We look forward to seeing all the projects that you do this week.

*We love to see all the projects each of you submit each week and our Design Team tries very hard to leave comments on each and every one. However, please keep in mind we may not be able to leave comments on the blogs who require code verifications.*

Show Me Sunday - A Tutorial by Liva

Sunday, September 23, 2012

I wanted to share a tutorial on how to make pretty flowers using just white masking tape.
All you need is a punched or cut circle from a cardstock or paper scrap and white masking tape (well you can also use the yellow or other color as well, but I will get to the part why I use white ones).
Just take the beginning of masking tape and start pleating it slightly overlapping the edge of your circle.
When you have pleated tape all around, continue pleating it more towards the center of the circle. Do this till you've covered all your circle.
And here's why IO use white masking tape - because you can apply almost any color medium to it and have flower that matches your project. In this case I used diluted ColorWash to spray my flower.
Add a beautiful brad or button to the center of your flower. Then ruffle up all those tape layers to give more flower like look and it's ready.
You can also use inks to add color just to the edges of your "petals".
As masking tape comes in different widths, experiment with all of them. The ones that are wider will give you more larger and fluffier flowers.
And here's a card that I made using my masking tape flowers. You can use these to also decorate any paper crafting projects as well as some home decor as well.

**REMEMBER - If you make a project using one of our tutorials (past or present) please share it with us on our Facebook Page! We love to see our tutorials being put to use!!

Fabulous Friday Challenge - Triangles!

Friday, September 21, 2012

Happy Friday to you! We have another wonderful challenge but before we get to that, we have some birthdays to celebrate!

Happy Birthday Joni, Erin and Lori M!
We hope you all do something fun to celebrate and spoil yourselves!

This week we have a challenge that EVERYONE can participate in because you do not need any special products. We are challenging you to use Triangles on your cards, layouts and projects! How simple is that?! Our Design Team did an amazing job showing you all the creative ways you can do this! Check it out...

Teresa used a Crafter's Workshop stencil to create the triangles on her canvas.

Brenda

Brenda used triangles and squares cut from patterned paper and cardstock to make this maple leaf quilt block.  It is framed in an 8"x8" frame, with the buttons, twine, rubons and alphabet stickers adhered to the outside of the frame.

Celebration Of Childhood

Barb
Barb used long, skinny triangles to create the starburst effect on this layout.

Sarah used a triangle banner punch to create a flower for a page in her art journal.

One of my favorite sponsors is back Mold Muse they have such an amazing range of molds over there, it's a must to click on the link and take a look at what they have to offer
Welcome to Mold Muse. We have been working with clay and resin since 1978 and making molds for over 20 years. Our experience brings you excellent quality molds using only high grade silicone rubber, not too soft, not too hard and perfect for highly detailed pieces and a long mold life.

All of our molds are lovingly handmade by hubby and me. We inspect each mold before shipping to limit clean up on your end.

We pour rather than press all of our molds to pick up every detail. Our process also eliminates the air in silicone which produces a far superior finished product.

We offer all our molds in high quality food grade silicone. Just leave us a note at checkout to pour them in food grade and we will make them for you. This normally takes us and extra 24-48 hours to assure the silicone cures properly before shipping.

Not intended for small children. Silicone Molds can be squishy and fun to play with but can also be a choking hazard. Please keep away from small children or supervise them while playing with the molds.
This weeks prize is a gift certificate worth $25.00, you get to go over and pick your own prize, now how good is that ?

Show Me Sunday - A Tutorial by Channa!

Sunday, September 16, 2012

Good morning all,

Today i am going to share a " paper bag card" tutorial. I have been wanting to make this for a while and i thought this would be a good opportunity to share this with you.

I have already started making my Christmas cards, i thought i would
start it from now so i wont have a Christmas meltdown in November.
But you can make this card for any style you like.

 For this tutorial you need:

A paper bag
Paper
Embellishments
Sticky tape or glue

First cut of the handles of the bag

Fold the bag in the middle

Take the measurements of your bag, front, back & the inside.
The inside needs to be measured 3 times, because of the bottom of the bag.
Cut your paper according to the measurements that you have taken.
This can vary depending on the size of your paper bag.

(Front)

 (inside,  times 3x)

After you are done with the above, add a piece of ribbon on the middle of your bag.
This will hold the card together, because it will be bulky in the middle with
all the layers of paper you will add in the middle of the card.

Now add sticky tape on all the pieces of paper you have cut.
I have chosen for sticky tape so it wont come off, you can also use glue if you want.

Decorate the card as you please!
Don't forget to make a blank card to stick in the right side of
the card, so you can write your personal wishes.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
Thank you for stopping by and have a good day!

Channa
