SHOW ME SUNDAY BY: Ann

Sunday, March 27, 2011

I love roses, so here's a tutorial to show you how to make rosebuds that will live forever!

Start with a 3 inch square of cardstock. I used Colonial White. Trim the edges so you have a circle.

Starting anywhere on the circle cut a spiral toward the center. Do not make it even. It adds interest to your rosebud!

Be sure to leave a small circle at the center. This will be your base.

With a sponge dauber, sponge some color on the edges of your spiral. Be sure to do both sides.

Starting with the outer edge, start rolling the spiral on a wooded skewer.

Keep rolling...

All the way to the center.

Slide your rosebud off the skewer and allow it to open up a bit.

Put a dab of glue (I used a glue gun) on the small circle in the middle and gently press down on the rosebud.

Add a couple of leaves, and your rosebud is complete!

I put the quarter there, so you could see the size of the rosebud. These can be made with a smaller or larger square of cardstock, depending on the size you want.

Here is another one that I made using a smaller square of cardstock:

You can view the entire project here.
These rosebuds can be used to decorate so many projects. Enjoy!

Fabulous Friday Challenge!

Friday, March 25, 2011

Welcome back to another Fabulous Friday Challenge! With Earth day around the corner, we thought it would be fun to challenge you to reuse or repurpose things you already have around the house! Our designers have done an amazing job this week demonstrating the variety of beautiful things that can be made with everyday items right in front of you!

But first, we would like to introduce you to our Guest Designer....

Like most of you, I wear many hats...mom, wife, paper crafter, afterschool director, scrapbooking event coordinator, sprinkle in a bit of chef and taxi driver...and that's me!

Tiffany used the mesh bag from a package of water toys, as well as a coaster from Starbucks!

You can find Tiffany's blog by clicking HERE! I am sure she would love it if you stopped by to say hi!

Lydia has taken the frame of a bathroom mirror and turned it into a piece of art to display photos of her kids.

This card was made using a recycled Starbucks sleeve label as the focal point. The cardboard backing is also recycled from the same sleeve.

Melissa created this mini book out of the cardboard from her laptop box--other recycled materials found inside: a dryer sheet, tissue paper from a gift, and lots of scraps!

All the little photos on here are the ones that Amanda would normally throw out because they are out of focus, someone is pulling a face, or the camera missed the person altogether!

Kissinia used pages of old books, the zipper of an old skirt, a piece of roller-bandage, a cardboard - shoebox, white primer, watercolours, & acrylic paint.
Ruth recycled packaging from her scrapbooking embellishments. Be sure to stop by Ruth's blog for a how to tutorial so you can make one yourself!! You can get there by clicking her name above the project!!

Now... we know you have things laying around the house that would be perfect for a card, layout or other craft project! Show us what you can do! Be sure to mention what you used that was recycled/repurposed! By playing along, you have a chance to win this....

Our very own, very talented Debbie hand picked this amazing scrapbooking kit! There are so many goodies in here you will be able to get a variety of cards and layouts completed and still have plenty left!

Because this kit is so big and wonderful, we have given you 2 weeks to try to win it! At the end this week,  we will randomly select a winner from everyone who linked up a project for this challenge and last week's challenge! Good luck!

Sketch Along Tuesdays 3-22 Sketch Challenge

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

We've got another great sketch for you this week, designed by Diana:

Sketch #11

Before we show you what our design team has created, we would like to introduce you to our guest designer for sketch #11 . . .

Andrea

I have been in the food industry for 21 years.  I am a wife and mother to three children and 5 stepchildren. Scrapbooking is my land of happiness.  It's my way of escaping the stress of every day life.  I love to create things with my hands.
I started scrapbooking just a few years ago when my wonderful hubby bought me a Cricut.  Up until that time, scrapbooking was just a thought.  I really didn't think it was my "thing".  Now look at me!  I love to experiment with all the scrapbooking styles, but Distressed is my favorite! I enjoy making handmade embellishments and papers to share with my friends.  I am always looking for ways to make something beautiful out of something that would normally discarded.

Thank you Andrea for joining us! Be sure to stop by Andrea's blog and see all the other creative things she has been busy making!! You can get to her blog  HERE!

Now for the design team reveal:

SHOW ME SUNDAY BY: Angie

Sunday, March 20, 2011

I am going to show you how I made my Easter Mini Album. I went with a paperbag album because you can add as many "pages/bags" as needed. The openings in the bags gives you lots of pockets to add photos and other fun stuff. Here is my take on the "Paperbag Album".

Just a few of the things you mightneed:
Paper lunch bags(I used 5),chipboard,ruler,paper trimmer,sanding block.

On the open edge of the paperbags tear about an inch strip off to give it a ruff edge. Then from the chipboard, cut 2 pieces just slightly bigger than your paperbags.
These will be the front & back of your album.

Front cover: This might seem hard but look at my photo you will see what I mean...Take one of those chipboard pieces eyeball the size of the bottom of the paperbag...cut like my photo...this will let your album open on that cut...

Now cover all 3 pieces of chipboard front & back with paper..I use Modge Podge.I like to finish the edges with the sanding block and ink the edges also.

Now that you have all the chipboard covered it's time to work on the inside. Stack the paper bags on top of each other. Glue the bottom of the bags to each other one at a time till you have all your bags glued.

Take the stack of paperbags and glue it to the chipboard back cover. Then glue that smaller chipboard piece of your front cover on top of your stack of paper bags. Now glue the second front chipboard piece to the first paperbag. Make sure you leave a tiny space between the 2 chipboard pieces so your album cover will open.

I finished up the album by cutting cardstock for the inside of the bags. On the outside of the paperbags I added a strip of paper right in the middle with a few diecuts I made. If you want to see more of this album you can go to my blog I plan of showing more of the pages and page inserts.
